Technically speaking a real matte goes over the photo itself and the pic peeks through a cutout.<BR/><BR/>To do one of these in photoshop the general idea is to open your photo. Press ctrl-alt-c at the same time and this brings up the canvas dialog box. In the lower pane put in the width of the border you want. My recollection is that this will pic up the background color.
