'tis the season....

Strawberry season is starting up, and you can find more and more of these juicy berries on Belgrade markets. The imported ones have been around for a while, but the homegrown ones are soooooo sweet and juicy. I absolutely love strawberries. I eat them with just a teeny bit of sugar, or slice them over homemade shortcake. Yum. Currently, a kilo of strawberries runs around 180 dinars or about $2.50 (about $1.25 a pound). Prices will rapidly drop with the onslaught of more berries.

Lovely and delicious looking!

If you want to enhance the flavor a bit more, try slicing and adding a bit of lemon juice and sugar ... let them marry for a couple hours ... enjoy!!

Strawberry season is way over here, and I miss it. Personally, I prefer summer fruits than the winter ones. There's a greater variety. Sometimes, when we get lots of fruit (because of my grandparents' farm), we make lots of fruit juice.

Gorgeous! That does it—I'm on the hunt for strawberries tomorrow, though I doubt I'll find any that look this good!

Chuck, I have just tried your suggestion about the lemon juice. Rather than 'marry' the berries I ate, they just had a short half-hour engagement, but were still delicious. The others will have a longer engagement; they're marry-nating in my refrigerator now.

I'm ready for some good fresh strawberries. When I was young, we would go every year to my grandparents and help them pick strawberries.
