MONDAY MURALS--Hit the pool, or the surf...

This mural is another high school mural, presumably this HS has a pool.

I hope that a lot of us will soon be able to go to the sea to swim, too.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY: (It looks like) IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE

I did a double-take when for once I was looking down at the sidewalk downtown while walking (Belgrade pavements are notoriously dangerous; ill-laid tiles, broken piece...) This reflection of a parked Vespa reminded me of one of those gigantic insects I saw in  black-and-white horror films when I was a kid....

I took the photo and hurried on....just in case.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--WHAT'S WHAT?

It is a bit difficult to tell what's what here...is it a reflection or a peek between two buildings?

SKYWATCH---gloomy

May is nearly over and we really haven't had much spring weather. This isn't a recent shot, but it represents what our spring has mostly been like.

LITTLE WHITE ANKLE SOCKS

This lady's little white ankle socks attracted me...I'll bet she wore them as a kid, too. I did.

REFRESHING

'twas a fine, cool, sunny, refreshing morning, and it was even more refreshing to see someone with their nose in a book rather than staring at a cell phone.

STREET MUSIC!

I love these guys. Playing traditional Serbian folk music.  I think the plum brandy container is empty....fellow was just tapping it for effect.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--the bicyclist

Here I was again, shooting people from a bench in the park. I like this shadow.

REFLECTION WEEKEND---mineral water

This may look like a fine crystal vase, but it is actually the upper part of a plastic mineral water, with a similar one reflected from behind.

SKYWATCH---BIG SKY!

Had to dig into my archives for this one, since the weather has been rainy. This was taken a couple of years ago in the town of Bac (bahtch), not far from Belgrade.

BIG FAIRY CONVENTION

We've been having so much rain it's normal that the fairies would come out en masse and gather around a tree.

Popped up overnight, as mushroom fairies do.

BLOWN-UP

I think this is an egret, but whatever it is, the quality of the photo is pretty darn good, seeing as how I took the photo under it with only a 50mm lens at quite a distance.

BELGRADE BROWNSTONES

I never noticed these buildings before, but it's probably because I had passed by when the trees were loaded with leaves.  These buildings remind me of the brownstones in New York City.

NOT DRAGONS' TAILS

This monument stands on the main square in the town of Ruma, about 64 kms from Belgrade, in the province of Vojvodina. Drove up there the other day to meet a friend.

These are not dragons' tails as I thought. The monument's is called "Monument of the Revolution" and these are trumpets, representing the seventh Vojvodina Brigade rushing to battle during WWII in 1944.

MONDAY MURALS--high school

I have noticed that many high schools around town have amazingly eye-catching murals. Here's another!

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--obliging pigeons

Sitting on  a park bench fiddling with my new Nikon Z50 mirrorless. And two pigeons obliged me.

SKYWATCH AND REFLECTION--St. Mark's Cathedral in the Television Building

This post is a double-header, since I am using this photo for SKYWATCH and for James' WEEKEND REFLECTIONS.

Here we see the reflection of St. Mark's Cathedral in the Serbian Television Building against a cloudy deep-blue sky.

TEXTING AT HOTEL MOSKVA

It was 11 a.m.  This man had just finished a glass of white wine and an espresso, and now took to his phone.  And I to my camera. (I did NOT have white wine or wine of any color, haha.)

CALESTHENICS WITH HIKING STICKS

Came across these ladies with their coach in what is referred to as Lower Kalemegdan Park, under the fortress that you can see here.

Participants use their hiking sticks as part of their routine. Not a bad idea...

WATCHING OVER THE BOTANICAL GAEDEN

These two, with matching statues on the other side of the entrance, watch over Belgrade's Botanical Garden. Looks like they've been picking a bit, too.

MONDAY MURALS--talking, texting, and a strawberry

Cafes here are now open, inside and out with the former having limited seating, but before that you just had to  grab a bench where you found one.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--ANGLES AND SHADOWS

Just what the title says. I liked these angles and shadows on a house in Kovin, Serbia.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--belated bunnies

Actually, the bunnies are not late. I did take this photo around Serbian Orthodox Easter on May 2, but just got around to posting it now.

The Ice Cream Tree

I think I may have made a similar post  before, but this chestnut tree in bloom was just too good to pass up. When I was little, my mother and I would call these trees 'ice cream cone trees.'

MARATHON'S A-COMIN'

Normally the Belgrade Marathon is held sometime in April,  but this year it's been moved to June.

Note: Even the 1999 NATO bombing of Serbia didn't stop the marathon, which was held on April 17th of that year. In April 2020 it was cancelled because of COVID, but now it's back....

I see more and more people in raining. I love this guy's spiffy shoes.

HAPPY EASTER AGAIN

Today is Serbian Orthodox Easter. I colored eggs yesterday.  In the top photo in the egg cup is this year's first egg, always colored red, at least according to my husband's family.  Beside it lies last year's red egg, which according to tradition, should be buried. You may wonder how you can keep an egg all year. You can...it just dries up inside and when shaken, I can hear the thumpy-thump of the dried up yolk.

The second photo is just an awfully cute whimsical ceramic 'egg'.

THEME DAY--EARTH, DIRT

Not the latest dirt here, but from about six years ago. This is me in the Deliblato Sands,  the largest sandy terrain in Europe, once part of a vast prehistoric desert, having originated from the withdrawal of the Pannonian Sea.

I still have the h at, pants, jacket, shoes, and purse, but sadly no longer my little black dog, Bibi, who is following. I don't have the camera either, having recently switched to mirrorless.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust...

See other dirt on THEME DAY.
