WEEKEND REFLECTION--Gaudi in Belgrade?

These reflections on a building on Dobracina Street downtown reminded me of the architectural designs of Antonio Gaudi.

Those nails...and the hair....

This lady definitely caught my eye the other day.  At first it was her hair, but then I noticed her nails....

She wasn't a young woman either....are you bold enough to wear your hair like this, at any age?

ABC WEDNESDAY "G" is for "Garfield"

 I'm not sure if Garfield has ever visited the Belgrade zoo, but someone thought he deserved his own mosaic on the zoo's outside wall, along with some of the other animals pictured below.

I watched this delightful little coquette have her photo taken by her father on his iphone (is that what it is...?) and then they sat down and enjoyed the results.

The tennis instructor...

This tennis instructor is probably telling the two young girls that they're too close to the net.  He was awfully cute, so I can't say I blame them for wanting a closer look...  ;-)

The Pink Lady II

You might remember this lady that I showed you about a year ago. She's still around, and still dressing in pinks and reds.  She seems to be a bit overcome with the intense heat we've been having.

There they were:  the primary colors, rolling along to and from the city of Pancevo, near Belgrade.

When I was a child, albeit older than my grandson, Luka, pictured here, my grandfather taught me this poem by Robert Louis Stevenson:

My Shadow

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me,

And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.

He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;

ABC WEDNESDAY--"E" is for "eye-catching"

 I just had to get this lady's photo.  She's selling cabbages and other vegetables on the open market near me.  If you've been reading my blog recently, the temperatures have been really high, and one folk remedy for the heat is to place a cabbage leaf on your head....  It has a cooling effect, so they say. Same holds true for nursing mothers who are experiencing bouts of mastitis....though you place the cabbage leaf elsewhere.

Up for grabs?

I think someone left these old shoes for someone to take, though I was a bit puzzled, since they're on the street by a doorstep, and usually such things are left near trash bins on the street.

Crisp, clean, and waiting

Had lunch the other day at my favorite restaurant for outdoor lunches, Vuk. My friend and I were early, but the tables were already set with crisp, clean, white tablecloths and napkins, while this pile stood waiting.

SKYWATCH--Serbian countryside: Šumadija

Šumadija is a region in central Serbia.  This area used to be covered in thick forest,
(Šuma).

This is another cell phone shot....  Do you know that yesterday here it was 43 degrees Celsius?  That's about  109 degrees....darn hot.

Dimpled

 Could have used these baby dimples for a D on yesterday's ABC Wednesday post....  My little grandson's backside, perched on my daughter's arm.

A cell phone photo I took in a cemetery in Gornje Grbice, near Kragujevac, where I attended the funeral of a very good friend's mother. It always saddens me to see neglected graves.

It's been hot here.  My little grandson was attracted by these water toys, sold by a lady on a bench in Tasmajdan Park.  We bought him the dark-green, fat frog.  Which one would you take?

SUNDAY BRIDGES--Red Hot Chili Peppers "Under the Bridge"

Well, here I am stretching it again a bit (a lot).  This gorgeous, deadly-hot chili pepper was given to me at the open market the other day instead of some small change when I bought some tomatoes.

I didn't have a post for Louis La Vache's SUNDAY BRIDGES, so I figured a Google with "Pepper Bridge" might do the trick, and lo and behold, up came the song and group in the title.

Weekend Reflections--two types of mineral water

The bubbles on the bottle on the left are from a bubbly mineral water, and the reflections on the right are from a non-bubbly water!

Noticed these trees while walking downtown. I hope nobody gets close enough up there on the terrace to give those pots a shove.

THEME DAY--Street lamps

Today's theme is street lamps.  I'm stretching this a bit, since these lights are not really exactly on the street, but close!  Anyway, they could be street lamps. I digress.

They're in front of the Nikola Tesla Museum here in Belgrade.  The poster reads that this year marks the 70 years of Nikola Tesla's death. I've shown you him several times before.  Each time I run across him, I wonder why I never, ever learned about him in grade school in the U.S.  If you'd like to know what Nikola Tesla invented that has been attributed to others, check out this site.
