SKYWATCH--through the window

Dinner the other evening at a local marina....through the window.

See other skies on SKYWATCH.

NOTE:  I've just disabled Word Verification.  I know it is a major pain in the behind, but I had been getting so many anonymous and unrelated comments. I'll give it a try without it for a while and see.

Pinwheels are forever

Today would have been my husband's 66th birthday.  He passed away in 2008, far too early.  He loved pinwheels, since he always said that was the toy that his parents always bought him when they went to the seashore.

Wish he were here....

ABC WEDNESDAY "T" is for tree

A tree that once was.  I've seen this stump decorated several times before. There was once even a small plaque on it, saying the tree had succumbed to some disease.  The plaque seems to be gone, but it is often decorated with flowers, in memory.

See other T's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

A house finch, a red one, spotted at my inlaws' bird feeder.  Read about him

Smelts

Do you like smelts?  I do. In Belgrade they're gutted and lightly fried.  I even eat the heads....

These were photographed at Seattle's Pike Place Market.

P.S.  Ah, lest I fib to you...I remembered  this post where I didn't eat the heads....

SUNDAY BRIDGES

Mount Rainier rises in the distance behind  Safeco Field and the Alaskan Way Viaduct.  Hope this viaduct counts as a bridge because I'm linking to SUNDAY BRIDGES.

Weekend Reflection: I am not alone....

Luka is now one and ready to explore a local play gym for toddlers. He especially liked this mirror box.

SKYWATCH--the clock tower

A drive-by shooting, but I was a passenger.  The clock tower on (I think) Seattle's train station.

I wonder...

I wonder how Vincent van Gogh would react today by seeing his artwork used in advertising cheese.

Resting

This cat sat on this gate for a long time. I'm always amazed at their ability to sit somewhere so seemingly uncomfortable for any length of time.

Not plums

Not plums, but bite-size, multi-colored tomatoes. Yum; they were good.

REFLECTION WEEKEND--More Chihuly

Another stunning example of Dale Chihuly's glass artworkSee yesterday's post.)  I absolutely love this boat, loaded with 'marbles', and its reflection is just as beautiful.

SKYWATCH--The Space Needle and Chihuly

You'll recognize the Space Needle for sure, but perhaps not the glass (yes, glass) succulent, of which I was only able to capture from this angle.

Took this photograph the other day when I went to see the Dale Chihuly exhibit at Seattle Center. It was absolutely fantastic, and I'll post another tomorrow for Weekend Reflection. See other skies on SKYWATCH.

Watch the birdie Part II

Not exactly the same size as the bird I showed you last Wednesday," but this little guy was in danger of getting squished on Seattle's Green Lake biking/jogging/walking/rollerskating trail.  My daughter and I, who found him while walking around the lake, whisked him off to PAWS to be taken care of.  They promised us an update on how he's doing, so I'll be sure to let you know.

UPDATE from June 18th:  PAWS wrote that this little Pine Sisken was successfully rehabilitated and released into the wild!  A happy ending.

ABC WEDNESDAY - "R" is for "rhubarb"

I am not a fan of rhubarb. I will eat it if you make some for me, especially in a strawberry pie, but I never buy it in any form.

But I do love its colors...

See other R's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

Watch the birdie!

I've shown you this bird about two years ago right here. That time you could see only part of the sculpture, but here's the whole birdie.

Have you ever....?

Have you ever visited a psychic or a fortune teller?  On the three times in my life at very large intervals when I have, I was honestly astounded. I was told specific things, which kind of gave me the creeps....most recently I visited a 'guru' in Jaipur, India.  I was once again unnerved by his accuracy about my past and present.

Do they know? Is it all coincidence?

What do you say?

This psychic in Seattle won't be the object of a visit since I'm still waiting to 'test' my Indian guru.  :)

SUNDAY BRIDGES--I see I-5

That's the I-5 highway that runs through Seattle, a double-decker in this shot.  You can see part of the University of Washington campus in the background.

WEEKEND REFLECTION---Beefy

Vanity plates...I get a kick out of reading them.

This one appropriately advertises El Gaucho Inn and restaurants, located in various cities in the Pacific Northwest.

The artist and his craft

Too bad I wasn't able to take this photo for the May 1st theme day of artists and their crafts.  Some of you readers may recognize Seattle's Chuck Pefley, who has (at least for now) put aside his photo blog to dedicate himself to crafting exquisitely beautiful glasswork, which you can view on his Etsy site.

If you're in Seattle, you can drop by the Pike Place Market, and if lucky, you'll hit one of the days Chuck is at his stand.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Q is for "quite a contrast"

I'm always stumped by the letter Q for ABC Wednesday, and this is a bit of a cop-out.  Couldn't resist posting these brilliant flowers for you today.

See other and probably better Q's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

Yellow Sun

Yesterday it was Black Sun and today a sunnier version of a mini-sun, a flower whose center I'd wanted to photograph with my new camera.  A bee photobombed my shot, and here he is.

Black Sun

This past weekend the sun has been anything but black, hurrah!  Forecast is more sun this week.  This statue, entitled Black Sun, dates from 1969 and is located in Seattle's Volunteer Park.

SUNDAY BRIDGES--the bridge camera

Bridge cameras are defined as those that bridge the gap between simpler point-and-shoots and larger SLRs.

Meet my D90's little brother (or maybe sister?), the Nikon Coolpix P510.  This camera was recommended to me by the Nikon shop in Belgrade, but over there it costs about $100 more...so I took advantage of my current trip to the US to buy one through Amazon.com, where the price was super-good.

It has some drawbacks and won't replace my D90, but it also has quite a few pluses.

Want to read more and maybe get one?  Check out this camera on AMAZON. In the meantime, check out real bridges on Louis La Vache's SUNDAY BRIDGES.

WEEKEND REFLECTION--more glasses...

Not a terribly original or new photo for this blog, but I'm trying to do shots between grandson's naps, short trips to the grocery store....

These glasses stood on my in-laws' countertop when they had us over for dinner.

Retro

These retro chairs remind me of those I had in my grandmother's garden as a child.  I remember sitting on them on a hot day, or trying to...ow.

Seen in the Capital Hill area of Seattle.

THEME DAY--Craftsmen

There are a couple of places I always visit when in Seattle, and one of them is Beecher's Handmade Cheese store at the Pike Place Market. Half the fun is watching the craftsmen make the various cheeses. In the bottom photo you can see my little pot of their macaroni and cheese with peppers. Yum...

Read more about Beecher's right here.

Check right here for other Theme Day posts.
