LEFTOVER

I came across this huge pumpkin on someone's doorstep while walking the dog last night. A Halloween leftover, albeit not turned into a jack o'lantern.

NIGHTTIME....could be daytime.

I took this black and white photo the other night downtown.  Given the weather nowadays here, it could very well have been in color....

SWEET SIN

If you have to sin, it might as well be a sweet one. Finally ate a doughnut from Seattle's Top Pot Doughnuts. They were out of my favorite Pink Boa (like this sugar doughnut but topped with a layer of pink icing and white coconut), so I had to make do.

A NEW PASSION?

In Seattle one often complains about the rain. The wetness has an up-side though: mushroom weather. I have become very interested in fungi and have ordered a good book. I do realize that it is difficult to distinguish the edible from the edible, but I will skip the taste tests and just be happy with finding out what kinds I see. A more enlightened friend has tild me that the white one is a meadow mushroom...and is delicious.

ROSIE THE RIVETER

I love the new Rosie the Riveter thermos my daughter (aka Santa) got me for Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Couldn't resist asking this Whole Foods grocery store employee if I could take his photo. He was all too pleased to oblige.

SERENDIPITY AGAIN

Another pearl from the "take-one, leave-one" little lending libraries stands that pop up here and there on neighborhood streets around Seattle.

Golden Book Guides were a staple of my childhood. I had Rocks and Minerals, Trees, and Reptiles and Amphibians, among others. This is a vintage one and I had to Gorilla Glue the binding, but it is basically still up-to-date.

CREATIVE CHRISTMAS TREE

My friend went for a mammogram today and this is the office Christmas tree! Quite clever. Click to enlarge it and read the little sign toward the top of the tree.

Thanks for the photo, J.W.!

CHRISTMAS COOKIES 2023

Made these the other day with my Seattle granddaughter. They are pretty and indeed a far cry from the sand tarts and gingerbread men with just cinnamon sugar topping, walnuts, and raisins that my grandmother used to make!

YOGA SANTAS

Couldn't resist snapping these yoga Santas.....and I bought two of them. 😊

SERENDIPITY

It's not the first time I browse through yard sales and thift shops. Every now and then there is something that just 'speaks to me' like this dainty Chinese tea cup.

PENSIVE

Here and there around Seattle are pieces of oversized artwork. I wonder if she's thinking of a New Year's resolution.

PEEKING IN ANTICIPATION

Last evening was the annual holiday concert at the school my grandson here in Seattle attends. I was so impressed....most of the players in the orchestra (he plays the trumpet) had only begun to learn an instrument in September and did a smashing job.  And hats off of course to the instructors as well!  These girls were peeking before the performance out to see how big the audience was....and it was a full house.

MOSS in the EMERALD CITY

Given that Seattle and this part of Washington are prone to wetness, I've always admired the variety of moss and lichens. I love the various shades of green, texture....  Not a surprised that Seattle is dubbed The Emerald City.

CLASSIC VIEW PART II

A short while back I uploaded a similar photo from the same viewpoint.  This one was taken around 9 a.m. before strong light hit. I don't even care if strong light hits Seattle; it had been so rainy.

BELLEVUE BOTANICAL GARDEN

Bellevue is a city adjacent to Seattle and so last night I was treated to a visit to their own Botanical Garden, all decked out in a jaw-dropping array of lights.

OLD-SCHOOL ICE CUBES

I am a thrift shop junkie and was thrilled yesterday to find these vintage ice cube trays that sell online for $20+.  These were two for $4.00.

They each make 18 big and long-lasting cubes and the trays are opened with such a safisfying crrruuunch.

SKYWATCH- Crows by the needle

Gloom, gloom is what Seattle's weather has been and will continue through the weekend.

See other skies on SKYWATCH.

PAPERWHITE NARCSSUS

Paperwhite narcissus is native to the Mediterranean region, but grows very well here in Seattle...indoors.  I think this plant on my daughter's shelf is happy it is not outside in the cold and endless rain we've  been experiencing.

LOTS OF DOE

There were four doe near her, but only got a good shot of this one. On San Juan Island, Washington.

A MAN AND HIS BIRD

My friends  here on San Juan Island tell me this fellow and his bird are frequent visitors to this cafe where we had breakfast.

FOUR WOMEN

Four women near an outdoor market downtown.
