Ain't she a beauty...?

I usually don't pay any attention to cars, but this one was worth a second look...and a photo. I couldn't find any marks to say what it was, so of course I emailed LOUIS LA VACHE to ask him what it was.  He replied, but....I accidentally deleted his email, so Louis, if you're reading this, leave a comment!

ABC WEDNESDAY - 'T' is for 'ten gallon' hat

I think this might be some version of the ten-gallon hat (which only held three liters, I think...).  Spotted this fellow at a local Starbucks while here in Seattle.

Spiky mango....

The kumquats and plantain I recognized, but had to ask what these spiky fruits were...spiky mangoes, I was told.

Waiting for a green light

Last Saturday's reflection was taken while stuck in traffic. This photo was taken while waiting for a green light....son-in-law was driving and I furtively 'shot' this man from the back seat.

WEEKEND REFLECTION--while stuck in traffic

I rarely mind being stuck in traffic.  My camera is always with me, so when possible I take advantage of what I can focus on, like this reflection on a building on Denny Street here in Seattle, where I'll be through mid-July.

SKYWATCH--In Seattle, can't you tell?

In Seattle through mid-July; new grandson---see yesterday's post.  Note the snazzy new color of the Space Needle, which is actually the way it was when first constructed.

A little sooner than we thought Part II

Nearly one year ago my daughter-in-law gave birth to little Mila, a little sooner than we'd expected, and lo and behold, now my daughter has done the same with baby Luka, born on May 18th, but was due today.  Now Mila has a little cousin.

I'm now in Seattle, and will be posting from here for a while until my return to Belgrade mid-July.

Sweet dreams.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"S" is for "stately"

The other week I visited Princess Ljubica's (LYOO-beet-sa) residence in Belgrade, now a museum.  Princess Ljubica was the mother of Prince Mihailo, whose statue I have shown you many times.  The museum curator, dressed as was the Princess, greets about 30 visitors for coffee with Princess Ljubica," a clever way of making history come to life. She speaks as if the visitors are personal guests, and for a while, you lose yourself in history.

Impressed?

Not sure if this peahen was impressed with her potential mate's display.  A moment after this shot, she just walked off...

"Yes, we have no bananas..."

"Yes, We Have No Bananas" was a 1923 hit song...way before my time, even my mother's.  This fellow has bananas, and is having quite a time pushing his cart.

If you'd like to see and listen to "Yes, We Have No Bananas", watch the video below.

Kitty bridge

Sort of a bridge...maybe a mini-pier....but it'll do. It works for this cat.

Body art

"Ow," is all I have to say.  I'm not opposed to body art, either tattoos or piercings, just don't want any.  This figurine is in the window of a piercing and tattoo shop downtown.  For years this space was occupied by Aeroflot, the Russian Airlines.

Leftover Teddy

It's not really the teddy that's leftover, but he's made from leftover yarn. I bought him at a stand in Kalemegdan Park when purchasing some wool sock/slippers for my daughter, son-in-law, and in-laws.  Traveling soon to the US to be with daughter, who's expecting....a boy.  Mila will have a cousin.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"R" is for "red rose"

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June :
My love is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune......

....And fare thee weel, my only love,
And fare thee weel a while !
And I will come again, my love,
Thou’ it were ten thousand mile.

So wrote Robert Burns, Scotland's national poet.

Do you have or have you ever had a love that is like a red, red rose?

Too much of a good thing....

Lush, an international cosmetic company, has several stores around Belgrade. These doggie-paw soaps are being sold to encourage spaying and neutering, something that is not so popular here. The sign in the background reads "Too much sex can be a bad thing."

Your opinion? ;<)

Nothing without Serbia!

Caught sight of this sign at a recent street fair.  These are typical Serbian shoes, still worn in places around the country and for special occasions like folk dancing.  You can read the English on the sign, and the word "Bre" (pronounced 'breh') is one of those words that doesn't so much mean anything by itself, but is thrown in for emphasis, something like 'man'.  The plums are a symbol of Serbia, since they're used for anything from brandy to pastries.

Weather's good, courts are open all around, like this one in Kalemegdan Park.

Got milk?

Never a dull moment downtown. This cow and her trainer (I do not know why he is dressed in a green body suit; I thought he was supposed to be a blade of grass..) were getting ready to shoot a commercial for milk.

This post goes out to my cow-loving friend from San Francisco, Louis La Vache.

ABC WEDNESDAY : "Q" is for "quaquaversal"

Can you put yourself in this position? I know I can't, but then again, either can the seated fellow in the photo.  Although it looks like he is very quaquaversal in this photo (going in every which direction), it's actually a friend lying on the bench.  But at first glance...

Got change for a fifti?

Keep an eye out for those counterfeit bills! (And learn who's on which bill, too!) Somebody didn't do his homework here, with Honest Abe (here, not so honest) front and center instead of Ulysses S. Grant.  And don't you just love the 'fiftidollars'?

This bill was on display at a recent exhibit at the National Bank of Serbia.

Two walks of life....

Sometimes when you catch a street shot you're trying too hard to get just that particular shot, which was what I was doing when I snapped this nun with her Adidas bag and athletic shoes.  But the lady behind her is walking almost identically, but that's where the resemblance stops.  Two very different 'walks' of life.

SUNDAY BRIDGES--a plethora of bridges

You pick which bridge of this plethora of bridges you like best on this photo taken from Kalemegdan.
And if you don't know what a plethora is, watch this clip from a movie I still enjoy... See other bridges on Louis La Vache's SUNDAY BRIDGES.

WEEKEND REFLECTION--not a shower curtain

I have passed this window many times and wished that that hanging scene was a shower curtain, but it's not. I mean, it COULD be one, but it's not for sale. I asked inside, and they said it was too expensive to mass produce...oh, but they should...

Nice bike, too.

This fellow's all for Serbia, as his bag says (in Cyrillic) and as shown by his šajkača (shy-KAHT-cha), the typical Serbian hat.

All he's missing is the national shoes called "opanci" (O-PAHNT-see). See what they look like right here.

ABC WEDNESDAY - "P" is for "packaging"

This is a bar of children's or baby soap. I bought these as small presents for people years ago when I first visited what was then Yugoslavia, thinking I'd never return.  The packaging hasn't changed one bit.

THEME DAY-bakeries

This bakery on a busy main street downtown is very popular. There's a line at just about any time during the day.  It's not near me, but I had some business in the vicinity and indulged.  Well-worth the line.
