SKYWATCH--across the river.

"I can see clearly now," is what I can now sing....but there has been major fog here.  This is looking across the river from the old side of Belgrade to the new.

These may look like vessels that come from the Far East, and I saw many similar ones in India.  However, they were photographed at a friend's country house.  She assured me they're local, but old.

Chinese New Year

Last Saturday was Chinese New Year, welcoming in the Year of the Rat. Yours Truly is a Rat.

I hate crowds, so I avoided the crowds in Kalemegdan Park that day, but went by today.

I believe this 'bronze' chariot is a reproduction of some of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's army figures in X'i-han, China.

Coat hangers!

Passed by the Cervantes Institute today (Spanish Cultural Center) and lo and behold, coat hangers on exhibit!  There were many, and all different.....

Who'd-a thunk it?

Google Translate (albeit nortoriously bad) tells me coat hanger is 'perchero' in Spanish.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--shadow and slime

Once again, not a recent photo, since one rarely sees snails now here in the winter!

But I had no shadow for today, so...

Doggie in a tree

Last Saturday I posted a  tiger in a window. Here now is a doggie in a tree!

And still no improvement

Last Friday I posted another photo of Belgrade's gloomy skies, due to fog, lack of wind, and more regrettably because it is not in Mother Nature's hands but ours, lack of enforcement of anti-pollution laws...

Shadows here and there...

This was taken one evening out my window when we were having MAJOR bad air problems and fog.  Now the skies are clear again....

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--How much is that tiger in the window...?

Ah, India.  Won't be going back for another year, but today I was once again reminded how much I miss it when I saw this tiger in an antique shop window.

I was lucky enough last time to see a tiger in the forest while walking at Vanghat Nature Lodge in Uttarakhand, India, run by a former student of mine. Vanghat is one of the rare places where you can walk to view tigers.  Check them out at

SKYWATCH--still gloomy

Still waiting for a strong wind, or even better yet, much, much stricter anti-pollution laws.  Major fog and fumes have been poisoning our air....

It's  been cold here, but I still have to do dog walks. I had passed this window several evenings in a row, and finally remembered to take my camera.

Indeed one equine of the "Play of the  Black Horses" rearing in front of the Serbian Parliament Building I showed you just a few posts  back looks like he really is going to sneeze.  That's a hooded crow sitting there, tickling the horse's nostril with his tailfeathers.

The sculptures were carried out by Toma Rosandic, who, along with Ivan Mestrovic, was one of the prominent Yugoslav sculptors of their day.

If you have read my blog for a while (I know, I have been seriously neglecting it.) you will know that I have a laundry fetish.

And this photo reminds me of a rooftop garret I had in Paris once-upon-a-time.

A gloomy photo that would not have looked much better in color.

Belgrade is having (and probably for some time) some serious air quality issues.  Nobody seems to be doing much about it....

On the other hand, Serbia has finally banned plastic bags...but they still abound.

Oh, my, my...

Since I've gotten a  new puppy, it's hard for me to carry my camera. This is a really bad phone shot of Belgrade's main post office with the moon on the left. What looks like a bright star on the right is of course a street light.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS -- reflections...sort of...

Kind of cheating on this one for James' WEEKEND REFLECTIONS. This is a painting with color added on the buildings and moon, and 'reflected' in the river.

SKYWATCH Pretty in pink

Last night I showed you the front of the Serbian National Assembly Building. Just across was this lovely sky.

Bajina Basta

Bajina Basta (BAH-yeena BAShta) is a town in the Zlatibore region of Western Serbia. You can read about it here.  Every year there is a Drina River Regatta and this cute little cabin is a focus point. Lots more boats around then!

Six ladies

Six ladies adorn this door downtown. I haven't ever seen people's faces on door glass like this.

The trees in Belgrade's New Cemetery, which is actually rather old, are darker than their shadows.
