ABC WEDNESDAY - "R" is for "rhubarb"

I am not a fan of rhubarb. I will eat it if you make some for me, especially in a strawberry pie, but I never buy it in any form.

But I do love its colors...

See other R's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

My folks used to grow it in their garden many years ago.
Mom made a delicious saue and pie with it.
Haven't really had it since then.
I agree the color is so pretty but the veggie isn't on my high want list.

Oh my goodness. I am a FAN of Rhubarb. It started in college when I was a waitress at Knott's Berry Farm, Chicken House there. They served a rhubarb sauce with each chicken dinner, and I love it.

Also love just a double crusted rhubarb pie, and also rhubarb parmelade. The photo you have is just beautiful, showing it's lovely colors.

I love rhubarb, but this is a scary colour

Ditto. You'd think there would be more of a fun quotient with bright pink food, but . . . Love your photo though!

I'm not positive, Bibi, but I think what you have there is red chard (cross section of stem looks like celery), not real rhubarb (cross section of stem looks fleshy like fruit: http://hotmitts.wordpress.com/2011/06/08/cranking-it-up-for-pie/img_4914/). Reminds me of the time a woman asked me in the grocery if the red radicchio she had in her hand was red cabbage.

Hi, Katie! Thanks for the red chard info. I never actually even knew there was a red chard. I Googled both rhubarb and red chard, and think this is rhubarb. Red chard seems to have straighter stalks, whereas rhubarb has these sidestalks. Now I'm confused! They sure do look alike.

My in-laws have Rhubarb in their garden and my husband makes the most amazing pies!

My grandmother used to make these around Thanksgiving and now so have I.  Great as a tart side, in salads, or in a leftover turkey sandwic...
