ABC WEDNESDAY--"Y" is for "yummy, youthful, Yugoslavia..."
All those words and more could describe a recent trip to Djerdap (JER-dap) National Park," located in Eastern Serbia about 3 hours from Belgrade.
I'd been there several times before, but never had seen the rock carving of Decebalus, which is not visible from the road, but only by boat. That's the photo in the middle of my 'postcard'. Decebalus was the last king of Dacia, who fought against the Roman emperors Domitian and Trajan to preserve the independence of his country, which corresponds to modern-day Romania. The carving is located on the Romanian side of the Danube.

Go vegan!
I never thought I would live to see the day when veganism, let alone vegetarianism, would be advertised, albeit on walls.
Serbia is meat-eaters' paradise. I hardly ever eat meat. What about you?

MONDAY MURALS--horses
Caught this mural in the town of Pozarevac, a little over an hour from Belgrade. "Za" is "for" and the first letter below, that looks like an H with a small b attached represents the sound Nj (nyuh). The other H is an N in Cyrillic. The word for 'horse' is 'konj' , but I don't know what the H (N) would be...confusing!

Proud
Caught this man sitting in Kalemegdan Park during a recent festival. Somehow, he seemed very proud-looking.
UPDATE: In response to William's comment, below, here is an explanation of his hat.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--fun car
This fun car stands in a gallery that sells wacky art. Looks like it might be fun if it were bigger and drivable.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS---linden tea
Linden tea is delicious; almost as delicious as the linden trees' blossoms are fragrant. The latter saturate the air with a heady, sweet fragrance anywhere from end of May through the beginning of June.
Linden trees are sometimes called lime tree or lime bush, but are not closely related to the trees that produce limes.
Here is a recipe for linden tea.

SKYWATCH--'Walking home'
Nice moon, the last full one was, and I caught this while walking home. PLEASE enlarge the photo. Like the moon itself, it looks much better bigger. And you'll see the bird better. How's that for an alliterative post?

Spying across the street....
I am an incurable Peeping Tom....but am I really? If you're sitting where everyone can see you, maybe I am not. In any case, while this lady is surrounded by flowers, I am sure she'd love to have this terrace.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS on a pitcher, in a glass
A recent road trip led me to a wonderful ethno-restaurant in the northern Serbian town of Bač (rhymes with 'watch').
Here's my glass, awaiting wine, with a pitcher of water behind it.

A little corner of paradise
For the most part, many of Belgrade's older buildings are sad-looking. Grey, crumbling facades, grafitti.... The one seems fairly well kept-up, and has been enhanced by someone's little garden.

MONDAY MURAlS in Odzaci
Yesterday I went on a road trip with some friends to the northern part of Serbia, a region called Vojvodina (VOY-vuh-dee-na). We ended our trip there before returning to Belgrade with a visit to an ice cream store in Odzaci (UD-jah-tsee), next to which this large mural (actually a mosaic, but I'm desperate) was created.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--triangles
I was sitting with a friend on the terrace of Hotel Moskva, sipping a lemonade and wondering where I'd find a shadow shot for today's post.
And all of a sudden, there it was, right in front of me. Actually, it was across the street a bit, but thanks to my 300mm lens, here it is close-up.

Last Saturday I took my granddaughter on a trip to the Upper Danube region, not far from Sombor in Serbia, where there is a beautiful nature reserve and a nearby private zoo.
