These balls are part of an advertisement for Komercijalna Banka, a Serbian bank founded in 1970, with 251 branches all over the country. These purple and white spheres are actually large stickers on the bank's window, and what you see behind the balls is actually a reflection of part of Belgrade's recent annual Flower and Plant Show.

Purple Rain?

Nifty shot, it actually looks like they've been added in post-photograph, but looking at your explanation I can see how it has been achieved. It is an optical illusion of a sort.
hmmm... looks like I need lessons in map reading. Belgrade is such a confusing city it seems too easy to lose ones way. Must have been the reflection in the window that turned me in the wrong direction :)
