Branches for sale

This photo was taken just before Serbian New Year's Eve, which was January 13th. I love this little lady's face, with all its wrinkles that reflect her life. She's selling pine branches, which some people decorate instead of a tree. Not a bad idea; I hate to see trees cut down, and the potted ones I used to buy somehow don't survive.

agree about the branches versus trees :)

But she make me think of "Wizard of Oz" or "Snow White". No, I am sure she is a very nice lady, by waving her branches all the magic stars will come out. Happy New Year!!!

I get the impression that she has a ready smile, keeps a tidy house, cooks the best food on the block, married a very handsome man -for love - and loves her many grandchildren. That's the story I get from her face.
Bibi - you'll have to go find her again and see if I'm right.

I came for ABC Wednesday, but I love this portrait even more than the beautiful artwork below! And now I know the interesting tidbit that trees are decorated for New Year's in Serbia :)

The potted ones do so much better if they are planted soon after Christmas. The last one I bought is now about 40 feet tall. We now use a white artifical tree with tiny blue lights. It is quite nice.

Time, that elusive thing that separates each of us from eternity and keeps me from doing all the things I would like to do.

I don't know about you, but my head reels with ideas and things I either want to do, should do, or wish I did — that I don't have much time left to do anything but take a nap. I am anxious for this winter to be over so I can get outside and think about planting some trees.

Carpe Diem!

you caught some nice light - I like how her hood shades her eyes. this looks like a scene from a fairy tale.

Oh, so New Year's Eve is on 13th January?
I loved your Burek Oboma post. How nice and humorous too!

This is a wonderful honest image. So many stories to weave around this lady. One of the reasons photographing people has become so boring is the lack of natural behaviour and expression. I envy you this image, it's perfect.

I know what you mean. I was glad to visit my Mom over Christmas so that there wouldn't be an extra tree to chop down.

Amazing how people find ways to try earning a little income. Kudos to her for trying to help herself rather than standing with cardboard sign at some busy intersection seeking handouts for passersby. Pride, I believe this is called. Great photo!!
