NEWS FLASH: a baby on the ground!

Maybe this baby on the ground wouldn't make you look twice, but here it would...and did. As a rule, Serbs do not put crawling infants or even very young children on the ground no matter how clean it may be...even usually in their homes. So, I was somewhat shocked to see this little guy, all dressed in white, too, make his way along the ground in Tasmajdan Park. His grandmother (yes, grandmother, whom I thought would not do this) watched him as he crawled.

Do mothers or grandmothers where you live allow babies like this to crawl along the ground?

Babies end up on the ground weather we like it or not and this granny had a right idea. As I noticed this is a rubber covered ground where kids play and animals are not allowed so it is ok. How else is the baby going to learn to stand up if she or he does not fall to the ground?

Maybe Gram had a little too much wine before she took him outside? Or maybe the kid just threw up all over her?

Hey, one never knows! :-)

Re your comment on Ocala: Several people made the same point. It wasn't visibly busy that day...but the parking lots are behind and to the side of where I took the picture, so you don't see all the cars.

You doing OK?

My background is Iranian, and we generally (emphasis on generally; we don't need any further stereotyping by the unfamiliar) have a real distrust of the floor as a safe point of contact for the weak. The floor is a dirty place given than shoes which have been everywhere touch it and given that gravity sucks filth downward and being the lowest point in a room, the floor is the primary destination of said filth.

Serbs/Yugoslavs are smart to second guess babies-on-floors.

SUNSET

A beautiful urban sunset over New Belgrade. The 'smoke' from the stacks on the left is actually just steam from the heating plant....
