SKYWATCH--the silk factory in Pancevo


Actually, as you see, it's now a defunct silk factory in the nearby town of Pancevo.

A silk industry was begun in Pancevo in 1733 and this particular factory was built in 1900.  Silk was produced until 1967, but the industry was already declining and the 234 year-old tradition came to an end.

Is the building sitting idle now? It would be a lovely hotel.

They should use this building for something else so it wouldn't be vacant. It is a nice old building with lots of history so I think there would be some interest in it.

I like the treatment of the photo as it dramatizes the demise of the place! I thought most silk was made in China!

THE ROOF CAVED IN....

 Well, not the entire roof. Just the back side, which is not visible here. Every year I make a gingerbread house. Notice I said 'made,...
