Impressions of Belgrade and Serbia and maybe photos from an in-country trip by a long-term ex-pat.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--slowly but surely
Surprise! I am in Montreal for ten days. Spring has not sprung here yet, as in Seattle, but there are signs!

THEME DAY--REVOLUTION--
No, it wasn't shredded wheat that was revolutionary, but I am speaking of the Electrical Revolution.
Just finished a great book entitled Empires of Light: Tesla, Edison, and Westinghouse--the race to electrify the world. A real page-turner, or rather a button-pusher, since I have it on my Kindle.
This book prompted me to read a biography of Nikola Tesla by John O'Neill, which is just as good.
Nikola Tesla was responsible for getting the Niagara Falls electrical dynamos up and running. Niagara Falls make me think of one of my favorite cereals, shredded wheat, and its factory is in Niagara Falls. It's the photo on the box pictured that I remember from my childhood.
And the lightbulb pictured is manufactured by a company called Niagara.

Good ol' regular mail
I remember getting mail in a mailbox like these when I was a kid. Now there are those plastic holders for newspapers, but back when I was little, the newspaper just got thrown on your porch...or not. And no cellophane on it either!

ABC WEDNESDAY -- "P" is for "perspective"
Evergreen trees here in the Pacific Northwest blow me away sometimes, with their grandeur. No exception here....

Color combination
Some colors look so fantastic together in nature, but not so good if you wear them. Or maybe on a tourist shirt!

Over a cuppa....and in front of a cuppa
I was also having a cuppa at Queen Anne's El Diablo coffee shop and down the table from me was this couple, who fell prey to a click of my tabletop Nikon... A she-devil is having a cuppa behind them.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--the turtles are out
It's warm enough here in Seattle (not that warm by my standards....) for the turtles at Green Lake to be out sunning themselves. Most line up on floating logs, but this individualist opted for a tree branch. Is this a new stage in evolution, tree-climbing-turtles?

SKYWATCH--the pot bearer
There were several of these statues in Kirkland, Washington, and I found them really attractive.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"O" is for "Oh, my gosh!"
"Oh, my gosh!" is exactly what I said upon spying these remakes of a vintage plaid lunchbox I carried in grades three, four, and five. I think a new one each year, since either the fastener loosened and my lunch fell out or else the (smaller than the big one shown) thermos cracked.
I dearly loved these lunchboxes....I can still smell the Lebanon bologna sandwiches with French's mustard (all on white bread, of course....) that my grandmother packed for me.
If you want to see the originals, have a look at this lady's blog.

Cute little ham
My daughter and I were having lunch the other day, and this little girl, over my daughter's shoulder definitely had an interest in my camera, which was on the table, yet untouched by me. I say 'yet', since as you see, I simply pressed the shutter a few seconds later, and there she is.
