Bad marketing strategy?

Being in the right location is a key ingredient in a business's success. To me, it looks like this fellow who's selling nationalistic souvenirs would do better on one of Belgrade's downtown streets rather than beside a corn field just next to a toll booth on the Belgrade-Novi Sad highway. On the other hand, if he's willing to sit there in the hot sun, I imagine he must have some sort of steady clientele! Note: took this photo a couple of weeks ago before the rain, which has somewhat dimnished, but it's coooold...!

That is indeed a strange location to be selling anything! Who needs a giant Serbian flag heading into Novi Sad/Belgrade on a random day!?

Ah, the rain has moved from us to you. The design is based on the Serbian flag, isn't it? Maybe his strategy is that if he tries to sell them in the city there is no place to park and everyone is in a hurry. At this spot, passers-by are slowing for the tollbooth and have space to pull over.

Perhaps he doesn't care to sell too many, but just enjoys reading his book in the sun. It looks like a pleasant job!

A good way to take a good sunbath!
But maybe it's a "part time" job... only on sunrise and sunset :-)

Strange business, in the Balcani area I Have see a lot of this nazionalistic souvenir, but I don't know Who buy this? People who live in the city or people that arrive in visit? The nationalism is again so strong? Or is for a small part of people? Excuse me for the political questions.. bye

Hi, Vero! The very short answer is that this stuff is usually bought by extremists to be brandished here. Naturally, some is bought by tourists.

A nice post. I enjoyed this guy's spirit and ideas. Besides that it makes a beautiful picture. A slice of time. History at the shutter click.

Maybe he sells just enough to buy his paperback books!

Hi Bibi:

Love the picture. I would image that this stuff is bought big time by Serbs from America or anywhere else in the world.

Great picture.

CROSS-CULTURE BREAKFAST

Have been in India one week. I brought my hostess some ajvar, which she found goes very well on a chapati.
