Koo-koo-ROO-zah!

I did a double-take when I walked pass this gourmet popcorn shop at 215 Pike Street in Seattle. "Kukuruz" is the Serbian word for 'corn.,' and perhaps in a couple of other Slavic languages. Googling gave me this information .

Sounds good!

Never far from home then... one way or the other.

I must say - I hate sweet popcorns:)
I am fan of salted ones like it is usual at Balkan.
Kuruza is bread made of corn flour (eaten in former times, poor people food).

Well spotted!
First popcorn was in Pula - 'baka' used to clean the floor, invite the neighborhood children, put a skillet on a gas 2 burner stove and let to popcorn fly. So much fun. I haven't thought of that in years.

I love this photograph! So well composed and sharp! And the colors - muted - just great.

I can imagine you did a double-take...I would, and I didn't even know what the word meant!

Wow, that must have been a surprise! Sounds like you didn't go in for a taste though. Their flavors are awesome—though I'll bet they pack the calories onto something essentially not that fattening. Welcome to America (Slavic name notwithstanding).

This is really fun to see. And Tash's remembrance of of popcorn possibly scooped up by happy kids from a clean floor, well that's priceless! Now I'm hearing a James Taylor song where he sings nonsense syllables and could have easily sang "sha na na" but clearly sings "koo koo roooz." Total coincidence of meaning and non meaning.

SUNSET

A beautiful urban sunset over New Belgrade. The 'smoke' from the stacks on the left is actually just steam from the heating plant....
