Nuts and honey....

Nuts, especially walnuts and honey, are supposed to be a powerful aphrodisiac. Surprisingly, yogurt, honey and walnuts contain high amounts of “fertility vitamins”, such as vitamins C, E, essential fatty acids (EFA), and zinc.

So that may put a whole new slant on your breakfast food. I've always liked the combination...

These jars were photographed recently at a small Belgrade honey fair. The big one is coming up the first week of October in Tasmajdan Park downtown. I hope the weather will be nice, not like last year.

Amusement Park Colors

It's been so hot here. People cool off at some of the beaches on several of Belgrade's river islands, and then perhaps enjoy an evening stroll along the river banks. In New Belgrade there's an area where there are several rides and activities children can enjoy in the cool of the evening. Here's a colorful shot of a couple of them for you---that's a bouncing castle in the background.

Why is this man smiling?

If you read his shirt, you'll see why. Or maybe you think he shouldn't be smiling. In any case, our friend Ljubomir (LYOO-bo-meer) is the creator and organizer of the annual World Testicle Cooking Championship, which takes place from June 20th to the 22nd this year just outside of Gornji Milanovac (GOR-nyee-mee-lahn o-vahts), about two hours' drive from Belgrade. The Championship is strictly a cook-off, with none of the raunchiness that often accompanies similar competitions. About 10,000 participants from all over the world (yes, even Australia) are expected this year. Check out the site on the banner for info in English. So, if you're planning a trip to Serbia, pop on down to Gornji Milanovac and have a ball.
