NEW WHITE SHOES

Goodness. I saw these 98 percent new shoes on a trash receptacle downstairs. Only the soles looked like they had been used, but very little. No laces, but no scuffs either. Someone placed them there, I imagine, for a needy person.

 

CYRILLIC VS. LATIN ALPHABET

Here in Serbia the Cyrillic alphabet (on the left above) is more frequently used than the Latin one, often puzzling foreigners who can't decipher street signs. 

The above versions are of the same message (Mostar is a town in Bosnia). No idea what happened on January 10th (European way of expressing dates).
 

GREAT DRYING DAY

 

I bet this person's laundry was dry as soon as hung out. Itis so hot and dry here.

I have done all my laundry from my Greek vacation, but oh, when too iron it?

WITHDRAWAL

 Here I am back in Belgrade, but psychologically still in Greece. I brought back some spanakopita and feta cheese, and an evil eye plate. Evil eyes are thought to deflect negative energy, and hey, that can only be good. The peaches are Serbian and the first good ones of the season. Baby-butt soft, not mush, so sweet.

LAST GYROS OF THE SEASON

 Gyros are the best-known Greek sandwich. Yesterday I ate my last one of the season.

BEACH TREATS

Hungry? Here in Greece fellows like these stroll the beaches, hawking their wares: sugar doughnuts and corn on the cob.

STANDING TALL

 During the day these beach umbrellas open like flowers, casting shade on the lounge chairs below them. At night, they stand tall at attention, as if vigilant.

SO SWEET

 Saw this couple helping an older lady into the Aegean Sea here in Greece. They were so kind and patient with her, and I envy her watermelon floatie...

THE PETROLONA PUZZLE

  The Petralona skull, discovered in 1959, disrupted beliefs as to where our ancestors came from.

Yesterday I visited the Petralona caves, located not far from where I am staying. Highly recommended. Please take the time to read or at least skim what this site says about THE. SKULL.

VAN GOGH IN GREECE

 

I think this abandoned chair is beautiful. It resembles chairs that van Gogh had painted.

SQUID!

One of my traveling companions had a birthday yesterday and she took us out to dinner. Fried squid and tzatziki.
