FLAT

VOJVODINA PROVINCE (VOY-vod-eena) lies to the north of Belrade, and is comparatively looooong and flaaaaat. It houses nearly 2 million people, out of the country's total of 6.6 million.

I am not sure I'd like to live in a very flat place, but it is definitely great for hikes and just passing through.

PATIENCE

A snow-white dog to remind us of the melting snow... He's waiting patiently for his human inside the shop.

COLD KITTY

Kitty found a slightly warmer place to sit. Still, I don't envy him for having to be outside long.

CLEARED STEPS

Finally after 5 days the steps across entrances to garages near my building have been cleared. More light rain and ice is due, so I will stay on my side, thank you.

FROM MY ARCHIVES PART II

Another photo from quite a few years back. I know I have posted this one  before, and now I am marveling that I ventured a walk from my place (I lived in the center then) to the small Bohemian quarter of Belgrade called Skadarlija.

No way now would I bus into town and take a stroll.....

FROM MY ARCHIVES....

I took this photo quite a number of years back from my son's apartment window, just across from where I live, and probably have already posted it. When there's no snow, it takes me just over five minutes to reach his place, but now with two small dogs in tow (actually they walk ahead of me on a two-dog leash) it takes me 25 minutes, no kidding; I am that cautious. I am now convinced for folks about my age, viewing snow and ice from the window is the best.

THE MYTH OF SISYPHUS, SERBIAN-STYLE

Two days ago these workers cleared the entire roof of a large nearby medical clinic. And here they are again!  I imagine getting the snow off somehow improves their heating units, who knows? It will be a seemingly endless job.

In case you don't know who Sisyphus was in Greek mythology, he somehow offended Zeus, who condemned him to roll a large boulder to the top of a hill and leave it there. He did, but each time he got to the top, the boulder rolled down again, so repeat, repeat, repeat.

FRENCH TOAST

My French toast this a.m. on my Paris metro map placemat.

In France, this dish is called 'pain perdu' (lost bread), here in Belgrade it is called "prženica' (little fried bread).  Whatever you call it, it's good

YE OLDE QUILT SHOP

Yesterday I showed you a young woman's hand resting on a bag that probably contained a light but warm quilt. I passed this shop today. I hadn't walked down this street in Zemun (adjacent to Belgrade) in literally decades, and was pleased to see that this old-fashioned quilt shop is still in business.  These are hand-made, stuffed with wool, and very warm.

If you want to see exactly what the wool inside looks like, have a look at THIS LINK. The article is in Serbian, but scroll down to see the photos.
