Another brush shop, but far away.

I told you yesterday there weren't many such brush shops around, and indeed, the next quaintest one I found was in Negotin, a city in Central Serbia that my husband and I visited a while back. This one, named "Vulcan," is owned by Miodrag Vlajsavljevic (VLAY-sav-lyeh-veetch), whom we did not meet, since the shop was closed all day. But it looks like he too has a wide selection of brushes and brooms. This shop dates from 1907, so is older than the Zivkovic-es.

P.S. PLEASE stop by my blog in the upcoming days, starting tomorrow, since I'll be posting some of my Greek vacation photos seen through the eyes of a tiny Serbian traveler who accompanied us.... Mystery man, at least until tomorrow!

Nice capture of something that's special to the area. The drawings are an interesting touch. Hope the 101 year old shop stays in business for a long time.

Wow, I can't imagine a place that just sells brushes. We are so used to the "big box" stores with everything anyone could want stuffed into them that small specialty shops are nearly unheard of around here. the only exception being places specializing in art.

Can't wait to start seeing your pics from Greece!

Bibi, everyone of your photos are full of life! I love how you capture the true picture of the people, nature, and bildings around you. The blurbs and explanations you write under each shot are so adorable :) Thank you!

Brush shop! I don't think if we have such store here. But there are other shops that sell brushes, and other cleaning tools (for floor and wall) all with each other.

Greece is somewhere I love to visit. I have visited Cyprus (the Greek part of the country) and I guess it somehow looks like Greece but not completely. I love Greece because of its great ancient civilization. In the very old days, Persian and Greek civilizations had some relationships with each other. Did you see the movie "300"?

I just LOVE your collection of brush shops. They are just amazing, and I can't think of an equivalent in France, even in older days. They are beautiful.

Re your tiny Serbian traveler, let me guess. Your son?

No, Nathalie! My son is 30, but he will be in one photo, in the background, along with the 'mystery man'!

A lovely shot, and I wish the proprietors had been there, too. Fun graphics they have on the door would make it easy to point and let them know what one was looking for!

I can't help but think it would be so much more fun to poke around in there than the cleaning aisle at Target!

The colors of this photo are just like a painting! I think the closest American equivalent was the legendary "Fuller Brush Man", the door-to-door salesmen who sold just that brand. They were supposed to be good quality.

We sometimes have hardware shops that sell brushes, tools, etc. but not a brush shop. I love the pictures on the door panels, it would make ordering something easier for foreigners! And 101 years old is very impressive!

SPRING FASHION

This is a post that would be better in color, but maybe not. These colors were soooo pale.
