...but not by the seashore. These scallop shells are for sale for 200 dinars each (just a little over $3.00) on Knez Mihailova street downtown. This fellow also had oyster shells and some smaller seashells, but people were snatching them up like hotcakes, as the expression goes. I was tempted to buy some to make my beloved coquilles Saint Jacques, but fresh scallops are unavailable here, and I've not seen frozen ones either. Sigh.

These look quite nice. We find a lot of them on Florida beaches, but many are broken...although we do have a large jar filled with a variety of seashells from our various travels...kinda fun!
What is HE doing there?! I always thought it was Sally selling scallop shells by the seashore!!
Very fun shot - and ooo LOVE the new header. Those plums look wonderful. As kids we picked them straight from a neighbor's tree. Plum dumplings - yum - or maybe just stewed with a drizzle of honey and of course just fresh off the tree with the juice dripping down your chin. But alas, they are like your longed for scallops, for there are no plums of that type here in MD.
They do make great bathroom decorations. And 200 dinars (well, $3) isn't that too expensive for something as pristine as those.
What about shells of fish à la Provencale or à la Mornay?
I was lucky to be able to pick seashells in Normandy last summer and bring them back.
Along with tons of delicious fresh shrimp from the Gulf of Mexico, the scallops are plentiful and one of my all time favorites. (I missed Gulf fish, shrimp, scallops and especially American smoked barbecue pork when I lived in New York City and New jersey.
I don't think I've ever seen so many polished scallops shells anywhere. $3??
I have some, but use them for baked clams (since clam shells are never this nice, or large). Mine were a gift from a flight attendant—back when they served real food on airplanes, including seafood in scallop shells (though that was probably in first class). Anyway, love this shot!
Long time since I saw scallop shells. We get scallops in restaurants, of course, but they are not served in shells anymore. Have also just discovered you can buy scallops frozen and apparently you defrost them and cook very quickly and it's all v easy, so might try that one day. Pity you can't get them frozen, Bibi.
