Oilcloth

Oilcloth is heavy cotton or linen cloth with a linseed oil coating to make it waterproof. Oilcloth has long been a favorite of mine for kitchen tables. I was very pleased when I first moved here in the 70's that it was easy to find on any market, and it still is. There's always quite a variety of patterns and colors to choose from.

Which one do you like?

Sorry, but I hate that thing - oilcloth. Looking at patterns I would choose blue/white kockice (squares?)

Me likes the blue checkered one. I've always liked oilcloth, too...but it's not easy to find around here! It was a staple of my youth, however.

I"m a gingham girl, Bibi. I don't think I've ever used oil cloth, just vinyl. How do you keep it clean?

The red one with the little white flowers. Oilcloth always makes me think of my Sicilian mother-in-law—she loved the bright colors (and I loved her)!

I think it might depend on the season ... red for winter holidays, and I rather fancy the blue and gold square pattern.

Hi, Paula!

Just wipe it with a cloth. It really is a kind of vinyl nowadays, I think, with a cloth backing, not oily or anything.

like the gingham and the red with little flowers...they also make rugs too, out of the oilcloth material.

Have to say, I love your new header...in fact, I've got several of those lenses and the little remote control on the left.

Nice!

Great to use tablecloths like that with young children who are good at spilling their milk glasses! I know!

«Louis» votes for the blue gingham. He hasn't seen oilcloth in years - probably more than 30 years. His grandmother used a red gingham oilcloth on her table.
You took ol' «Louis» back to his Texas panhandle childhood with this post, Bibi!

YANKEE IN NICE

Edit: pastis is a licorice-flavored alcoholic drinksimilar to Greek ouzo. My favorite drink as it is for many people in this area. No more ...
