Impressions of Belgrade and Serbia and maybe photos from an in-country trip by a long-term ex-pat.

MONDAY MURALS--Sweet, no, STREET dreams
Big and bold. I think that's an ice cream sandwich on the right...

The night tree
Not just a night tree of course, but I'd passed by quite a few times in the daytime and never really noticed its face. Should have saved it for Halloween, but that's far away.

THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER
The Brothers Grimm's The Elves and the Shoemaker was a favorite fairy tale of mine. I was delighted to see elves in this shoemaker's shop.
The sign reads 'buckle changing' and 'heel changing'.

Looking toward Skadarlija
Skadarlija, or Belgrade's Bohemian quarter or at least was in the past, is a place I've shown you before. Most recently was a shot of the now defunct beer factory you see with the mural on the wall.
I was enjoying an ice cream break (the weather's been that warm) outdoors and snapped the photo looking up the street.

THEME DAY--MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Here's a current and older shot of Belgrade's original municipal building, which now houses the Yugoslav film archives. Awfully hard to get a decent recent photo because of all those darn cars parked there.
Here's a little history:
The Belgrade Town Hall now has the status of the cultural monument. It was
built around 1846, during the reign of Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic, and was located on the site of the former Great bazaar, which later became the venue
of the administrative and educational life of the capital.

HOTEL CONSTANTINE
I believe I've shown you this hotel before. It's just around the corner from me. Somehow I never had caught its reflections from this angle.

An oldie but goodie.
I have a weakness for Deux-Chevaux....I used to have one in Paris for a while, older than this model, since the front doors opened 'backwards'. It died on me in front of the Eiffel Tower before I came here...and I abandoned it there.
I like this one's lemon-yellow.

Museum of Pedagogy
These kids remind me of characters from a Stephen King novel...but they are standing outside Belgrade's MUSEUM OF PEDAGOGY, which, I am ashamed to say, I have never visited. I will....
Have a look through the site.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS---the scary hand
This might look a bit scary, but it's the reflection of my own hand in the window of my bedroom. I was parting the curtains to have a peek out...
