Impressions of Belgrade and Serbia and maybe photos from an in-country trip by a long-term ex-pat.

I want burek...
Ah, burek, that cheese-filled, crunchy breakfast dish made with phyllo dough.... Heavy stuff, but once in a while I've just got to have it. The ideal burek should not be greasy and not too dry either.
It's so good, and my dog gazed longingly at me, making me feel very guilty. She got some.

Irish hands
I spent just over two months during the restrictions/lockdown at a former colleague and travel companion's house here in Belgrade. She's only 3 bus stops away, but the location is a different world from smack downtown where I live: greenery, a garden, calm (even when we're not under lockdown), and the park I showed you yesterday is nearby.
She is 88 years old, very spry, has stories to entertain you for days, loves to garden, travel (when possible!), is a killer Scrabble player, and has a book on just about every subject. Shes Irish and has lived in "Yugoslavia" since 1958!
She and I traveled to India together twice in the same year about 6 years ago.
Her she is, mindfully chopping onions...

THEME DAY: Parks. 2.38 minutes of pure frog
I know, I know, I said I was not going to post anymore. However, I gave it a second thought, partially thanks to those of you who commented on my 'last' post, so here it goes.
I won't be posting every day...
During the coronavirus debut, I had been staying at a friend's house in a lovely green suburb of Belgrade.
On a dog walk, I visited this park one morning....the frogs were soooo loud, and you can hear them right here. Turn up the sound and enjoy...they get louder at the end!
I hope that link works... First time I've posted an audio link.

Signing off....
It's been nearly two months since I last posted, and my posts over the last year or so have been far and few between.
At this point in my life, although I am still 'into' photography, I can't commit myself to posting regularly, and so, I've decided to end my blog.
It's been fun, and who knows, maybe I'll be back....
Stay safe and healthy.

FIRST TOWN HOSPITAL
This beautiful building is not far from me. I only know it as being the place where I go for a medical exam to renew my driver's license.
However, while walking the dog I passed and saw a sign First Town Hospital. I looked it up and you can read about it right here. It was constructed in 1868 as the first official hospital building. There is a museum inside now that I must visit.

The Parliament Building
In the US it's Saint Patrick's Day. There are some Irish pubs here and the cinematheque had scheduled an Irish film festival...but because of the coronavirus, events have been cancelled.
There's some green in this photo... ;)
If you want to watch a great film though, try WAKING NED DEVINE. You won't regret it. Great film. Outside the US, it's just Waking Ned.

The night tree
Not just a night tree of course, but I'd passed by quite a few times in the daytime and never really noticed its face. Should have saved it for Halloween, but that's far away.

THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER
The Brothers Grimm's The Elves and the Shoemaker was a favorite fairy tale of mine. I was delighted to see elves in this shoemaker's shop.
The sign reads 'buckle changing' and 'heel changing'.
