A "dinar" for her thoughts...

Like many European cities, it's really difficult to find a parking space in downtown Belgrade, so I always take the bus across the river to the center. One-ride tickets cost 29 dinars (about 53 cents) if you buy them at a kiosk, but more if you buy them in the bus. Working people and students can buy monthly passes. In any case, I am continually fascinated by people's faces. I stared at this lady's pensive expression for nearly the whole ride, and she was so absorbed in her thoughts that she didn't notice my snapping her picture as I held my camera on my knees. What's she thinking of?

I wonder! She does look lost in thought - pensive, maybe even a little longing. Have you tried it in black and white? Great knee shot, anyway!

To a better world I may hope after the elections. But in between...

What a beautiful portrait. Window light, just by itself, is so flattering to the human face.

Thanks for your comment today. Email me before you get to St. Louis and I'll give you some tips. There's a mail link on my profile. I work downtown in sight of the Arch. We could meet for lunch or coffee if you like.

She looks very sad. And that's make me sad more. There's still people in Belgrade feel very lost, even politicians promise better life. I hope more people will use public transport instead of "loading" downtown with cars.

Beautiful photo. It would make a nice painting! It is almost a painting already!

I've never been to Serbia, but have been twice to Slovenia. I don't know if they have anything in common. (I loved Slovenia.)

She certainly looks like she's far away from that bus seat. Very nice photo of her. I suspect you would not have been able to capture this mood had she been aware of what you were doing. Lovely!

Yes fabulous photo and intriguing lady - but are you not beyond privacy rules here ?

Extraordinary and beautiful portrait !
Beyond privacy rules ? I don't think you're being unfair to her.

I don't think it's beyond privacy. She's in a public place, the photo's not disrespectful. Of course I don't know what the rules are in Belgrade.

It's indeed a beautiful portrait.
