...by any other name....

Rickhaw?  Tuk-tuk?  What do you call these?  This is a snazzy new way to get around Seattle, though I haven't seen many of them.

Harley, Harley, Harley....

I get a kick out of these chaps...is that what they're called?  Not sure.  I think motorcycling would be fun..
If you'd like a good laugh, check out this video of a fellow doing motorcycle imitations....

ABC WEDNESDAY--"F" is for "Fly"

Cheerful mural! Although there's no snow in this photo (took it a couple of weeks ago), Belgrade has been pretty much covered with snow this month. I wanted to fly somewhere....

Where would you go if you could hop aboard? France? Frankfurt? Fairbanks? Florence? Fargo?

Look both ways.

Not easy for old people around town, but the city is slowly adding sloped sidewalks for easier ascent/descent of wheelchairs and carts. This elderly lady never looked right or left as she crossed the street and despite a bus's (after this one) loud honking.

She seems to have a load of firewood in her little cart. Again, this photo was taken before our big snow. I'm sure her firewood came in handy.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

"Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (The more things change, the more they stay the same)" could perhaps be applied to Belgrade's new "Bus Plus" system, but we'll see.

Most people I've talked to think so. If you're a regular bus user, you have to get a special card with your photo on it, pay a monthly amount, then scan it inside the bus. You can enter from any door.

For people like me, who use the bus once in a blue moon, you can buy a rechargeable card that you scan in the bus, or else buy a ticket from the driver (you used to be able to buy a ticket at a newsstand), then punch it in the little yellow machine you see above. I think the 'entering by the front door and buying a ticket' part is going to slow things down...

And ticket controllers will still be around to check both your pass and individual ticket.

Let's see if this system is an improvement in itself, or if it will need some changes.

ABC Wednesday--"U" is for "Underworld"

And here you thought the entrance to the Underworld existed only in mythology; the departed descend to meet Charon, who is waiting down there to ferry them across the Styx.

Not so....we have our own version of the Underworld right here in Belgrade, as do many cities like London, Paris, Moscow....you'll only find trains, crowds of people, and who knows, perhaps someone from another kind of Underworld...

Accessories for the fashionable biker

Rather than sneak a shot as I usually do, I asked this biker if I could photograph his fancy jewelry and tattoos.. He said, "Sure, but first you gotta listen to the stories that go with 'em." So I did, but they're too long to relate here, albeit REALLY interesting.

Green-bellied...

This airplane seemed to have taken off from Boeing Field here in Seattle. Perhaps it is on a test run and is a plane to be exported to some foreign airline? Never saw any green-bellied planes here.

Anybody know?

ABC WEDNESDAY- "U" is for "Unconventional"

Here I am again, photographing behind the wheel. I could not resist this....

A Barbie hearse? What a way to go,
I thought...

It's a way to go, all right, but not on your last ride. The Barbie Dream Hearse , though indeed a hearse in body, is now used as a limo for the fashionable girl's night on the town.

Weird. Or just 'unconventional'.

SKYWATCH FRIDAY--Blimp over Palos Verdes

Here I am in Palos Verdes, California, where I'm being graciously hosted by Tash of Palos Verdes Daily Photo. Tash took me for dinner last night at Admiral Risty's by the ocean. What a view....and meal....and a blimp to boot.

See other skies, and perhaps a blimp or two, at
SKYWATCH FRIDAY.

Sunday Bridges--twilight traffic

The traffic hardly ever ceases along the city streets and over its bridges. You can see three bridges here and the tower of the new one to be completed that I showed you right here.

'Old timers' Museum

This post goes out for Louis La Vache of San Francisco Bay Daily Photo, who loves cars. Belgrade has an automobile museum, affectionately known as the 'old timers' museum. I passed by the other day and took this photo of an old Opel (ask Louis what year....).

I must go in sometime....

Theme Day--Transportation

November already and a new theme day! This photo is a drive-by shooting. I was stopped at a red light and noticed this urban still life beside me. The tires on this bus look pretty good, and I love the bus's color, but that rust....

ABC WEDNESDAY "O" is for "Out for breakfast"

This lady is enjoying breakfast of hot burek that I explained to you on Obama's inauguration day. I couldn't resist snapping her photo quickly; she has the most wonderful face. Later I noticed that there are sort of O's on the bus behind her, too. And maybe the snaps on her jacket count as O's....

Check out other O's on ABC WEDNESDAY.

Reflections Weekend--Don't park too long....

If there's anything worse than returning to your car and finding a ticket, it's finding two tickets. Downtown Belgrade is divided into several parking zones. If you live in one, you can pay a monthly fee to park for unlimited hours. Otherwise, you need to pay per hour. Zones are one hour, two hours, or three hours. If you don't pay, apparently like this Deux Chevaux owner didn't, you'll find a parking ticket or two...or three....tucked under your windshield wiper...
