Pea? What pea?

This cat looked so comfortable that he or she couldn't possibly feel even a pea below all those pillows.

Sweeping

A seemingly unending task.  He's doing it the old-fashioned way, with no leaf blower. I hate those things.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"T" is for "trompe l'oeil"

"Trompe l'oeil" indeed, since if you walk right in, you'll bang your nose.

Masha and the Bear

The Russian cartoon, Masha and the Bear, is tremendously popular here.  My granddaughter adores it, and has a Masha doll and the Bear. To quote Wikipedia:

"Masha is depicted as a precocious, happy, kind, and mischievous little girl, while the bear is a fatherly retired circus performer that tries to keep Masha out of trouble but often ends up the unintended victim of her mischief. There are a number of supporting characters in the series, including Masha's cousin, a penguin adopted by the Bear, a young panda cub who is the Bear's cousin, a tiger that worked with the bear in the circus, and a female bear that is the object of the bear's affections, along with a rabbit, squirrels and hedgehogs, two wolves who live near the bear's house, and a pig, goat, and dog who live in Masha's front yard."

Have a look at this cute video.

MONDAY MURAL--Tea Time!

It was a coffee pot yesterday, now it's tea time.

This mural is so cheerful that even if you didn't want any tea to begin with, you feel like a cup.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--Turkish coffee

Not much of a shadow, but it's there.  Two Turkish Ç†ezve against a typical Pirot rug.  Remember, Serbia was under Turkish rule for 500 years...

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--Lace curtains

Old window, lace curtains, blue sky, yellow leaves....though since I took this a few days ago, the weather has turned wintry....but it's about time.

SKYWATCH--gloomy

A gloomy view, like something from the beginning of a film noir.

Love it

I have to say that I like this mural....I wonder if the people who live there did it or had it done, or did they just awaken one morning, walk out the door, and....?  But it's still there, so they like it, and so do I.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"S" is for "Save the Sparrows"

The population of Belgrade's mascot, the sparrow, has been declining, due to too many pigeons and crows, which overpower the little guys in a struggle for food.

Recently in Tasmajdan Park these sparrow houses were placed in several trees.  At least the sparrows won't have to hustle for housing; tiny holes!

The hat shop

This is one of those shots taken totally without looking, a hip shot, lest the woman notice me.

Turned out pretty well, I think.

Jovan Ćirilov

Came across this mural of the late Serbian theater expert, philosopher, writer, theater selector, poet, and significant contributor to Serbian culture, Jovan Ćirilov, who died on this day in 2014.

Skywatch--Beware the comet!

Not a real comet, but a jet plane, I think, or perhaps I've spotted a UFO and didn't know it.

I opted to say it was a comet, since today is Friday the 13th...  Historically, comets were thought to be harbingers of bad luck.  For example, the Bayeux Tapestry shows a comet when Harold of Essex snatched the English throne from William of Normandy, soon to be known as The Conqueror.

Are you superstitious?  Will you be cautious today?

ABC WEDNESDAY-- "R" is for "red"

I think this lady looks rather elegant, though she did turn a few heads.

Today is REMEMBRANCE OR ARMISTICE DAY," celebrated by wearing a bright red poppy.

I often pass by this cafe with chairs stacked up after closing time.  I like these old-style wooden chairs.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--Trash collectors

When I was a child, we called the men who came to pick up the garbage 'garbage men,' a term which makes me cringe now.  'Sanitation' worker sounds too pretentious, so I've settled for 'trash collector,' hoping that won't sound like it's someone who actually makes a collection of trash.  :-0

The end or a new beginning?

I showed you this bakery nearly three years ago. It now seems as if it's on its way out....note the supports on the right.

When I uploaded the photo, I could read the sign on the door, which reads, "Being renovated." I hope so, and if they do, that they will keep the character and old charm. Too often I've noticed that 'renovation' ends up meaning 'condemned' here....

Quondam"

"Quondam" is defined as 'that which once was' and so it is with this Volkswagen.  This type, as far as I know, isn't made anymore; correct me if I am wrong.

Reviving the old...

This old sculpture still stands on a facade of a building in an old Belgrade neighborhood.  The bright yellow wall and the colorful signs of the health food store really stand out.

When I uploaded this photo, I noticed the ashtray on the shelf above the figure's head.  Guess people in the health food store smoke.
