THEME DAY--"Where do I belong"?

Hmmm....a difficult theme this month, at least for me.  I could have taken it in the literal sense, but because I'm a long-term ex-pat, and have lived for many years here in Belgrade and in France, along with a couple of places in the US before that, it's hard to pick a physical place.  Also, my travels, especially to India, complicated things. I do feel I somehow belong there....and wherever my friends are, I belong.

So......  I decided just to photograph myself. I belong to me, and where I am, I feel like I belong. If one isn't comfortable in one's own skin, then one isn't comfortable or doesn't feel like they belong anywhere.

I'm going to make it a point to check out photos posted by others at THEME DAY.

A thoughtful and reflective explanation of the reason you chose your own portrait. It looks wonderful!

A very fine portrait of a beautiful woman and it's wonderful that you are so comfortable in your own skin.

Dear Pat, we go back so very far in this blog world. I remember when we first connected, you shared some devastating news with me and I felt so honored that you felt you could do that. For many years, you were Bibi and that's we all called you. I've watched your deal with your grief, your grandchildren born, and have loved seeing your Belgrade through your lens. I love seeing your portrait.

A self-confident, concise and proud statement, the best I've seen for the theme. (I didn't have time to get to it.) I could easily say that I belong in St. Louis after all there years but if there were no obstacles (and there are plenty) I'd be back in NYC. It's what molded me.

I think you "belong" to the world - something all of us need to get to. We are all related.

Well said. Home is in my heart. Nice selfie.

I'm often homesick for places I haven't been yet.

Beautifully stated—and I love your self-portrait. I'm grateful to have discovered your blog—and then to know you in "real life."

Hi Bibi - Love your post for Theme Day. Life's circumstances have a way of dictating where we live, but if we aren't comfortable in our own skin, then no matter where we are, we are just not going to feel like we belong.
