Long ago, I used to live in the part of town where this mural is now painted. Last July, a worthless, reckless, scum of a driver sped through a crosswalk where there were clearly people and killed this little 10 -year-old boy who was crossing the street in a crosswalk with his father and brother, who miraculously, suffered serious injuries but were not killed. His father and The driver did not stop, but was later apprehended in his nearby apartment drinking coffee. Even worse, at the first hearing, the judge released the driver on bail. Enraged citizens from all over Belgrade protested for days, and finally on July 23rd of last year, the guilty party has found himself in jail..I hope they throw away the key.
The text reads: "I'm watching you from heaven now, because of me you are now here, (meaning the protesters). Good people, don't let someone else's child be a victim."
See other murals, I hope not this sad, on MONDAY MURALS.

A couple years ago I was going to pick up my nephew very early in the morning while it was still dark. On one of the main highways there was a little tent by the side of the road and several police cars. Turns out there was a tent because a young man (well, 17) had been hit and died there. The driver kept going for a ways, then pulled over in a parking lot and called the police. I imagine he was horrified, paralyzed, and distraught. It was an accident. The young man had been walking by the road in the dark. The driver panicked. It sounds chilling in your post that the driver was found drinking coffee, but maybe it was like this.
Sandi, I didn't write the details above, but such was not the case of this driver. He had had issues with the law way before this, and his cohorts had threatened the judge after he was arrested, and that is why she let him go at first....awful.
What a sad story about the hit and run and death of the little boy.
Lovely that a mural has been painted in his honour and that people protested about that reckless driver.
Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Pat.
