MONDAY MURALS--Miticeva Rupa

This park and mural are located in the very heart of Belgrade, an oasis surrounded by apartment and business offices.

The area was/is commonly referred to as Miticeva Rupa (MEE-tee-cheh-va Roo-pa) or Mitic's Hole.  The land was purchased before WWII by Vlada Mitic, a wealthy businessman, and since 1946 has been the site of over 26 various projects, none of which ever seemed to take hold.  For this reason, the area was said to be cursed, since nothing succeeded there. Then, in 2000 it was turned into a park for children and anyone else who wanted to sit on a bench.

Now it's back to being cursed again....the city wants to 'develop it, which, in business lingo, means get rid of the trees and park and build apartment buildings. There's been an uproar, but I am not optimistic.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY==ONE RED, ONE WHITE

Both of these strawberries are now history. My friend Jasmina grows them on her rooftop terrace, along with an assortment of lovely flowers.

WEEKEND IN BLACK AND WHITE--Old Man with a Fiddle and a Boy

This relief stands above the door to the STANKOVIC SCHOOL OF MUSIC not far from where I live.

Honestly, it looks like both the fiddler and his pupil have fallen asleep.

SKYWATCH--4:35 A.M.

Hot, hot, and sometimes hard to sleep.  Got up to get a drink of water at 4:35 and here's what I saw out my window.

Made me almost feel good about getting up.

THEME DAY--TOOLS

July's Theme Day is Tools.  The dictionary defines tool as "a device or implement, especially one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function."

These are only a few of the tools I use every day, though of course there are many more....

NIGHTTIME HOUSEWORK

Housework for him and her. Snapped this photo late last night of two industrious souls across the way. Both their work may have been less painful because it was much cooler than in the daytime. Our temperatures have been in the mid-to high 90s for quite a while.

THE LINDEN TREE

This is the time of year when linden trees here are in full bloom, and their fragrance thrills me. Often wondered why no one has made a linden perfume.  Here's a link to one woman's attempt to find a linden perfume.

Here they do make a linden syrup and serve it diluted in ice cold water on a hot summer's day, the likes of which we've been having.

Here's a close-up of linden blossoms.

MONDAY MURALS---BASKETBALL, ANYONE?

Spotted this mural in the town of Runa about a month ago. I am not a sports fan, and have no idea who these players are, but perhaps you do.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--Old Timer Peugeot

Many cities have an Old Timers Car Club and Belgrade does, too. This is a (year unknown to me) 'gold' Peugeot, and it was so spiffy....

SKYWATCH-- THE FACE IN THE CLOUD

At first this may look like |I touched up this cloud, but it was actually like this. A phone shot and my screen was not dirty and didn't make the streaks/

SOUR CHERRIES

Not your proverbial sour grapes, but sour cherries, the kind I used to pick is a child. I'd climb up my grandmother's cherry tree and stuff my face....the cherry stains were hard to get out, but hey, I didn't have to deal with that.

These beauties come from my friend's cherry tree and I didn't even have to climb. She'd already picked them for me.

DID SHE SEE ME; DID SHE CARE?

I always play innocent when I used my camera for such shots, pretending I'm checking something on the camera, and not looking directly ...
