The Ušće (OOOSH-chay) Tower, located on the confluence of the Danube and Sava Rivers. (Ušće means 'mouth' of a river.) Ušće Tower is the tallest skyscraper in Belgrade, capital of Serbia, and the second-tallest building overall, after the Avala tower. It was the tallest skyscraper in the Balkans until the construction of the Avala Tower.
Got this shot when I managed to make it to Kalemegdan park early....and caught the mist.

Impressions of Belgrade and Serbia and maybe photos from an in-country trip by a long-term ex-pat.

The Avala Tower
The Avala
Tower is a 204.5 m tall telecommunication tower located on Avala mountain near Belgrade. It was destroyed in during the
NATO bombing of 1999. On December 21,
2006, the reconstruction of Avala Tower began and the tower was officially
opened at a ceremony on April 21, 2010. It is currently the tallest tower in
Serbia and the Balkan region.
If I don’t change
the banner by the time you read this, the tower is visible there! Read more about and see the new version of the tower right here.
(This photo right here shows part of the nearby monument to the Unknown Soldier...
plus an amazingly cute dog.)

ABC WEDNESDAY "Q" is for "quirky"
Isn't this guy cool....sort of. He looks like a distant relative of Colonel Sanders. Another one of my hip shots from afar. Check out the white steering wheel cover and the white towel on the seat of his car....

Corn on the cob
Most of the time you see people selling grilled corn on the cob, but this is boiled...and salted, no butter.
It was a chilly, rainy day when I took this, and though I didn't buy any, a hot piece of corn would have been welcome.

Soar with eagles...or at least pigeons...
An aspiring little sparrow sits with three big buddies.
These birds are perched on top of the Cvijeta Zuzoric pavilion that I showed you once before right here.

Sunday Bridges--My bridge on a book
My little traveling companion, Radovan, and I have the pleasure to introduce a book of observations on Belgrade and the 'new' Balkans by an acquaintance of mine, Dr. Andreas Ernst, a Swiss journalist who has been living in Belgrade for several years. A while back, I was pleased to receive an email from Dr. Ernst asking for permission to use this photograph on the cover of his book, which just came out a short while ago.
I don't read German, but I am reading the Serbian translations!
See other bridges on Louis La Vache's SUNDAY BRIDGES.

THEME DAY-at water's edge
Believe it or not, this photo was only taken about 10 days ago before our weather turned fall-ish. Yes, I know it's time, but as I type, it's windy, rainy, and overall very stormy.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"P" is for 'petting'
This street cleaner took the time to pet this little kitten on Knez Mihailova.
Happy Halloween to those who celebrate!
