Rapunzel's tower?

Well, not really, but this early 1800s water tower in the small village of Ecka (pronounced ETCH-ka), Serbia, looks as if Rapunzel might lower her locks at any moment.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Reading....or not....

These gentlemen were reading in line to pass the time until they were able to get a free skin cancer check-up for seniors.  Actually, since Serbia has a socialized medicine program, all exams and treatments are without cost, so not sure why they chose to stand in line....

Notice the difference between them and the younger generation...

Breakfast on a bench

Sunny!  At least it was the other day when I took this photo of an elderly woman enjoying what I bet was a piece of crunchy, hot, and a bit greasy burek.

 Finger-lickin' good....

April showers brought....

April showers brought some May flowers.....as seen by this group of wildflowers in front of a gate in the nearby village of Kovacica.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY- Run for the bus!

A few seconds before, this man was peacefully sitting on a bench in Kalemegdan Park, but then he suddenly leaped up and ran off in the direction of the bus stop at the end of these bushes on   his left.

At least he wasn't running f rom Yankee-in-Belgrade....

SKYWATCH--nesting storks

A bit blurry since I didn't have time to get out of the car.  My recent jaunt to Ivanovo took place during nesting time for storks....  There were many such nests perched on top of telephone poles. I marvel at how they do that.

Ivanovo

A few weeks back I visited the village of Ivanovo, about an hour's ride from Belgrade. Foto Klub Beograd had organized a photo safari there, so....off  I went.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Q is for Quite a Gal

This is Gil (short for Gillian, pronounced Jill), who is a friend and former colleague of mind.  A few years back when she was 81 and then nearly 82, she traveled to India with me. She'd been twice before and so had I.  We had a super fantastic time.  Gil is Irish, and says her fitness is due to good genes and a very boring diet....

Here she is three days after her recent 85th birthday feeding her dog a biscuit, still going strong, and more fun than ever.

Bill Burke from Somewhere in Ireland will perhaps recognize her.  And by the way, if all goes well, we plan to 'hit' Ireland next spring.....

The darker side....

Now after the May 1st Theme Day of Let's Eat, comes a photo of the darker side=those who have little to eat.

THEME DAY--Let's eat!

While out dog walking near an outdoor market where I rarely go, I was lured down a street by the scent of baked bread....irresistible.

I found this  bakery that sells its wares the lowest I've seen.  There are about 111 dinars to $1.00, so you can see for yourself.  The 70-dinar and 20-dinar prices are for 100 grams, about 4 ounces.
