Nadežda Petrović, born 1873, is considered the most important Serbian female painter from the late 19th and early 20th century. She is also known as Serbia's most famous Fauvist. In 1912 she opened her own studio, which was sadly short-lived, as Nadežda volunteered in 1914 as a nurse in World War I and died with many other soldiers in 1915, of typhoid fever. you won't believe this, but I was just thinking about her the other day and wanted to look up some poems in English translation. She is my mother's favorite poet & I've read various of her poems. Another wonderful, informative post.
The statue conveys such serenity and beauty.

ita been a long time since ive read any of her works, but this brought up many memories....i love her poetry, and the first time i encountered it was when i was really little, probably 5 or 6, cant recall exactly....the Bloody Fairy Tale is something which left an immense impression on me, especially since its written in such a manner, that i presented vividly the entire poem in my head...i still feel shudders at the thought of it...mainly coz its related to a real event....makes the feelings very strong
