ABC Wednesday "C" is for "catastrophe"

Belgrade has quite a number of 'floating restaurants,' which are especially popular in nicer weather when you can sit outside on their outdoor decks. This one, by the name of Argument, sprang a leak, and this may be one business that won't manage to stay afloat.... Sorry---couldn't resist the bad pun.

We also just posted our "C" of the La Coupole restaurant in Paris. Although it has changed owner it is still afloat.

hi bibi, i profit by this post to say you two things: first, i love your blog because you are very very simple and sharp in the same time! and i like these features! second, about the post. i read some times ago about a barge-kafana in belgrade called "crni panter". it is a kafana manage by roma people where if you want to smell kusturica's film aroma, you can feel it only there! i don't know if you ever heard about that kafana... anyway, i read that it burned out some weeks ago! could you take some information about that? thank you in advance! :)

i know another kafana like that, the name is "crna macka"... have you ever heard about this too?

see you and thanks again!

Never been to the Crni Panter or the Crna Macka, but the former did burn down---couldn't find details!

No argument...it's a great shot.

Tyra

Odd name on a restaurant.

I'm with Tyra...such an odd name for a restaurant, sinking or not. I wonder how the name came to be.

Yes, it's an odd name, especially since it's next to a beautiful still-floating one (not shown here)called 'Dijalog' (Dialogue)!

No idea how the Argument got its name...maybe they couldn't decide on one, and just named it after a heated discussion.

definitely on the loosing side of the Argument. That's pretty sad. It looked in really good shape. I love the M-R "punny" remark - so true :).

Oh no. That all they need in this day and age. I haven't been to a floating eaterie for years. You'd think an island would make use of the idea. Pun away, you've seen my poor attempts.

What a shot! Are they trying to set it aright? I love seeing all the buildings in the background... esp the one with the spire.

I can match your pun. This photo gives me that sinking feeling! Normally you ask for a table by the window but I'll have one in the shallow end!

Seriously though, this is bad news for this business. Good news for you though as you got a great photo.

I've never been to a floating eatery unless I can count taking my dinner in to the bathtub?
This is interesting! I would never have known there were foating restaurants in Belgrade if I hadn't been a follower of your blog!

No argument, Bibi, that you landed a fine photo for our C post today! You always get great detail in your images and I love scanning them. I'm guessing that a refloat on that barge should not be too difficult. How nice that you have so many choices for dining along the river.

This strikes close to home as we live on a boat. My heart goes out to the owners.

O what a priceless photo - maybe their customers gave them too many tips!

SUNSET

A beautiful urban sunset over New Belgrade. The 'smoke' from the stacks on the left is actually just steam from the heating plant....
