The Potato Seller

This is a dedication to my favorite artist, Vincent van Gogh, who painted The Potato Eaters. This is The Potato Seller, sitting and smoking on sacks of spuds (how's that for alliteration?) You'll see he has a sack of onions thrown in for good measure.

This fellow is a regular seller beside an open market near where I live. You can also see that automobiles park all over the sidewalks, if they can get away with it. That is not the fellow's car you see behind him.

I wonder if potato sales were a little slow for him ...

Yes I like the painting you refer to too though it is one which is not too joyful.

This is rather poignant photo, sad almost; certainly gripping in the sense you want to see him do well and sell lots of potatoes because it appears he's not all that happy with his condition in life.

Of course it could be he simply has a headache.

I really like the candid shots you get of everyday people. The speak loudly of life.
Did you buy potatoes? The bags look huge.

Van Gogh would be proud!

Just last night I had a baked potato for the first time in ages—and it was cooked in the oven, not the microwave. Love your shots of everyday life, and I loved your alliteration! So do you buy your spuds from this fellow?

I had a baked yam with roast turkey yesterday. P & I celebrated Thanksgiving early this year as she has to work Thursday.

Do many average householders purchase potatoes in these quantities? Seems like a lot of weight in each of those sacks! Those onions look to be the size of or Washington state Walla Walla sweets!

Nope, I have never bought potatoes in such a huge sack, though people with big families do. They're an inexpensive food and of course can be served in many ways!

this is one of those photos where a picture is worth more than a thousand words. After recently spending one month in Montenegro, this image is really not so unusual. It is simply a way of life.
