Petar Njegos

Petar II Petrović-Njegoš (NYEH-gush)was a Serbian Orthodox Prince-Bishop and a ruler. However, he is most famous for his poetry. Both my kids had to learn by heart extensive passages from his works in grade school (no, they can't recall much....), but Njegos is still considered to be the best poet in the Serbian language.

The mural behind him has been there for a long time; I'm trying to remember the name of the artist...

Petar's poetry, passed on through generations, possibly put your prodigies to sleep.

Nice statue, though. Looks like he was wearing big leather boots.

I feel like most statues are of patriots and soldiers (here, anyway). Nice to see one that honors a poet.
Love his boots too.

Bibi, can you show us a better view of the mural?

Will do, Louis, next time I'm downtown.

Well, this post took me on a tangent, looking up things related to Njegos. I remembered he wrote "Gorski Vijenac" but I think I was too young to learn any of his poetry.
I like the sculpture very much. Is it recent? I looked in "Belgrade", a 1984 book on the city I got from my Mom, which does not refer to this sculpture.

SPRING FASHION

This is a post that would be better in color, but maybe not. These colors were soooo pale.
