WEEKEND REFLECTION--Merry Christmas Part II

"Hristos se rodi!" to all of you Serbian Orthodox readers, since today is your Christmas. I've cheated a little here, since Santa Claus does not come to you today, but already has on New Year's Day....or maybe he'll come again on Serbian New Year's, which falls on January 13th...oh, so many holidays.

No wonder this Santa is still wandering around.

See other reflections at James' WEEKEND REFLECTION.

Merry Christmas? A belated Merry Christmas? How the heck does Santa keep everything straight? He looks like he's lost his sleigh here. Poor ol' guy!

Love the red on black. Yes, Deda Mraz will be one tired fellow after all the holidays. Deda Mraz came on New Year's Eve when I was growing up in Tuzla. And usually brought a bag of candy with an orange or two. What a treat!
I think I already told you about a Santa visit to our apartment in Pula when I was about 4. He came in a van, and danced Ringe-Ringe Raja with me and the family. I loved it. Another time, I was in a New Year's parade in Tuzla. Must of been 10 - sort of enchanted forest on a back of a large flatbed. The prince fell down and nearly off (no injuries) during a suddend stop.

I love the thought that you get a second Christmas! Around here, the trees are piling up at the curb and it's a bit sad. (I'll keep mine up a while longer, just because I can.)

PICKLED RED ONIONS

My grandmother used to make these around Thanksgiving and now so have I.  Great as a tart side, in salads, or in a leftover turkey sandwic...
