WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--Trash collectors
When I was a child, we called the men who came to pick up the garbage 'garbage men,' a term which makes me cringe now. 'Sanitation' worker sounds too pretentious, so I've settled for 'trash collector,' hoping that won't sound like it's someone who actually makes a collection of trash. :-0

I still use the term garbage men, but I've heard trash collector used as well.
I'd never really thought of the name. I think we call them garbage men.
We still use the name "garbage men" too...great reflection of them..regardless of what term you use!
I heard "garbage collectors" too but I used the word "garbage men" I always admire them and try to show it whenever I can, easy for me I am up pretty early in the morning.
