ABC WEDNESDAY--"B" is for "Bon appétit"!


There is an old restaurant here in Belgrade I've eaten at many times since I came to "Yugoslavia" in 1977.

There are rumors that it is closing....why, no one seems to be sure, but one thing is sure, since the rumors started, it has been packed. Mind you, it always was, so....

When I was growing up in Binghamton, NY, home of many Slavs (Russian, Polish, et al), I was rather fond of the name of Yugoslavia.

Wow, that looks like a meal fit for a king. What are those kebab looking things? Don't tell me - they're kebabs!

Hello, Shooting Parrots! Those kebab-type meats are cevapcici (cheh-VOP-chee-chee) and are very similar in taste to kebabs. No skewer though!

Those are interesting plates - eggplant, one of my favorites, but not many dishes (in the USA for that veggie), and do I see grape leaves on the left dish? Ah my mouth starts watering now!
