ABC WEDNESDAY--"U" is for "unaware"
Definitely unaware....I was close to these guys when I took the photo and stood there a few seconds to compose it. I think I could have taken a close-up of their faces, so absorbed they were in their 'conversations...'

Cream puffs par excellence
Today would have been my late husband's 70th birthday..... He would have loved to have one of these, though they weren't good for him, or for anybody for that matter. But we could have shared one....

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS---oriental pastries
I was good. So good. I did not give in to buying any of these super-sweet pastries on one of Belgrade's oldest streets, Balkanska Ulica.
Instead, I decided to take them all home with me, digitally.

SKYWATCH---the bat
On my recent trip to Belgrade's old brick factory, now a place where unconventional artists set up shop, I ran face-to-face with this large bat..... I think he's rather cute. Big, too. I could stand under his wings.

Chillin' in the underground passage
Belgrade has a few underground corridors that run under major streets. There are shops and stands in them, but most of these passageways look downright tacky.
Someone decided just to have a little rest.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"T" is for "teenager"
A teenager, she is, but in dog years she's much older. Today my sweet little Bibi and my blog nickname turns 14!
I've had her ever since she was ten months old, when I adopted her from Katya, who no longer has as many dogs in this photo, thanks to a lot of friends. I adopted Bibi when she was no quite one, with the intention of finding a home for her.....and I did. See other Ts on Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC WEDNESDAY.

Looking down
I caught this elderly man from quite a distance away as he watched the traffic and pedestrians go by on Belgrade's Kraljica Natalija (Queen Nathalie) Street.
Below is a full view where you can see newer buildings going up in the distance.

A recent visit to Belgrade's old brick factory, now a haven for artists, yielded this mural.

SKYWATCH--between storms
This is a phone photo that turned out pretty well. These clouds formed between two big, booming storms the other day.

ABC WEDNESDAY--"S" is for "Signs"
The alternate title for this is "urban and natural colors," since there are reds and greens on two of the signs, too....

Not so ferocious....
Not so ferocious, but definitely wanting out. Someone took the trouble so this pooch wouldn't get cut on the broken glass.
I did hear his friend rumbling in the background....

A sweeping display
Eye-catching too, along with being a sweeping display.... These brooms hang over a cafe in BELGRADE DESIGN DISTRICT. This site is in Serbian, but if you wish, you can see what's going on by looking up BELGRADE DESIGN DISTRICT on Facebook.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY--violins in the shadows
Yikes....time flies. Seven years ago I posted about a violin maker in Kovacica whom I've visited several times since.
On a recent trip, these violins in various stages of completion, caught my eye.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--kiosk in the bank window
At first glance, this may not look like a reflection at all, but you will see that the letters are all backwards. A kiosk reflected in a bank window....

SKYWATCH--crows....
I'm not too fond of crows for various reasons, but they made for a halfway decent photo.

Rapunzel's tower?
Well, not really, but this early 1800s water tower in the small village of Ecka (pronounced ETCH-ka), Serbia, looks as if Rapunzel might lower her locks at any moment.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Reading....or not....
These gentlemen were reading in line to pass the time until they were able to get a free skin cancer check-up for seniors. Actually, since Serbia has a socialized medicine program, all exams and treatments are without cost, so not sure why they chose to stand in line....
Notice the difference between them and the younger generation...

Breakfast on a bench
Sunny! At least it was the other day when I took this photo of an elderly woman enjoying what I bet was a piece of crunchy, hot, and a bit greasy burek.
Finger-lickin' good....

April showers brought....
April showers brought some May flowers.....as seen by this group of wildflowers in front of a gate in the nearby village of Kovacica.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY- Run for the bus!
A few seconds before, this man was peacefully sitting on a bench in Kalemegdan Park, but then he suddenly leaped up and ran off in the direction of the bus stop at the end of these bushes on his left.
At least he wasn't running f rom Yankee-in-Belgrade....

SKYWATCH--nesting storks
A bit blurry since I didn't have time to get out of the car. My recent jaunt to Ivanovo took place during nesting time for storks.... There were many such nests perched on top of telephone poles. I marvel at how they do that.

Ivanovo
A few weeks back I visited the village of Ivanovo, about an hour's ride from Belgrade. Foto Klub Beograd had organized a photo safari there, so....off I went.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Q is for Quite a Gal
This is Gil (short for Gillian, pronounced Jill), who is a friend and former colleague of mind. A few years back when she was 81 and then nearly 82, she traveled to India with me. She'd been twice before and so had I. We had a super fantastic time. Gil is Irish, and says her fitness is due to good genes and a very boring diet....
Here she is three days after her recent 85th birthday feeding her dog a biscuit, still going strong, and more fun than ever.
Bill Burke from Somewhere in Ireland will perhaps recognize her. And by the way, if all goes well, we plan to 'hit' Ireland next spring.....

The darker side....
Now after the May 1st Theme Day of Let's Eat, comes a photo of the darker side=those who have little to eat.

THEME DAY--Let's eat!
While out dog walking near an outdoor market where I rarely go, I was lured down a street by the scent of baked bread....irresistible.
I found this bakery that sells its wares the lowest I've seen. There are about 111 dinars to $1.00, so you can see for yourself. The 70-dinar and 20-dinar prices are for 100 grams, about 4 ounces.
