A dilemma indeed. Not sure Goldilocks would have sat in any of these chairs, used by street sweepers at a nearby market to sit on while they take a break. On the other hand, I can see a sort of smile on the back of the chair on the right...maybe she'd have sat there.
Wikipedia says that the occupation of chimney sweep "is considered to be one of the oldest in the world," along with, I guess, the other obvious one that comes to mind. Wikipedia also says that in parts of Great Britain it is considered lucky for a bride to see a chimney sweep on her wedding day. It is also considered good luck to shake hands with a chimney sweep or to be blown a kiss by one. Here it's considered good luck to rub one of your buttons if you pass one in the street. This fellow was selling little key chain brushes (100 dinars=$2.00), so I bought one. And he let me take his photo, though he didn't blow me a kiss, darn.
Right now Belgrade is doing its spring cleaning. Workers from the city's official park service are around, quite visible in their grass green overalls, tidying up here and there. With the better weather and blossoms (just starting!) comes a desire to spruce up one's surroundings. This lady is using an old-fashioned twig broom (still sold on markets for around 100 dinars or $1.50) to sweep inside one of Kalemegdan's passageways. Notice the mish-mash of stones and brick again!Hmmm....This is one of those photos I thought would turn out better. Was desperate for a photo!
