Impressions of Belgrade and Serbia and maybe photos from an in-country trip by a long-term ex-pat.

SKYWATCH--nesting storks
A bit blurry since I didn't have time to get out of the car. My recent jaunt to Ivanovo took place during nesting time for storks.... There were many such nests perched on top of telephone poles. I marvel at how they do that.

Ivanovo
A few weeks back I visited the village of Ivanovo, about an hour's ride from Belgrade. Foto Klub Beograd had organized a photo safari there, so....off I went.

ABC WEDNESDAY--Q is for Quite a Gal
This is Gil (short for Gillian, pronounced Jill), who is a friend and former colleague of mind. A few years back when she was 81 and then nearly 82, she traveled to India with me. She'd been twice before and so had I. We had a super fantastic time. Gil is Irish, and says her fitness is due to good genes and a very boring diet....
Here she is three days after her recent 85th birthday feeding her dog a biscuit, still going strong, and more fun than ever.
Bill Burke from Somewhere in Ireland will perhaps recognize her. And by the way, if all goes well, we plan to 'hit' Ireland next spring.....

The darker side....
Now after the May 1st Theme Day of Let's Eat, comes a photo of the darker side=those who have little to eat.

THEME DAY--Let's eat!
While out dog walking near an outdoor market where I rarely go, I was lured down a street by the scent of baked bread....irresistible.
I found this bakery that sells its wares the lowest I've seen. There are about 111 dinars to $1.00, so you can see for yourself. The 70-dinar and 20-dinar prices are for 100 grams, about 4 ounces.

SHADOW SHOT SUNDAY---benches again
Spring is a beautiful time of the year, but at certain times of the day, it's still dark.....and even a teeny bit gloomy.

WEEKEND REFLECTIONS--Kitty through a dirty window
This little cat is giving me the eye through a very dirty window. Kind of like his canine equivalent that I posted here.

Nationalism ......
There are many souvenir stands along Knez Mihailova, the pedestrian street. Part of what is sold is nationalistic paraphernalia, as seen above (Novak Djokovic and Nikola Tesla are/were patriots rather than nationalists).
Trump is pretty popular here.....they prefer him over Hillary Clinton, who they say bombed them. This of course happened under her husband....
Many Serbs believe that Trump will make Kosovo part of Serbia again, hence his popularity.....you can read about that by clicking here.

We have demonstrations, too!
There are anti-Trump demonstrations in the US, and Serbs here have ones to protest the current Prime Minister, Aleksandar Vucic. And the beat goes on....
Took this from my window. Despite what it may look like with the torch, these demonstrations have been very peaceful.

ABC WEDNESDAY---"P" is for "posing prettily"
Sunny weather is baaaack.... and this young woman is taking advantage of it. Thanks to my zoom lens, I took advantage of her pretty pose.

Burning vestments
This priest and his assistant are burning vestments, the proper way to do away with sacred religious materials.
This was taken at Aleksandar Nevski Church in downtown Belgrade.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD
In a few years the ice creams these boys are enjoying will undoubtedly become cell phones....
