Winning smile, winning girl.

I was going to keep this for ABC Wednesday next week (W for 'winner'), but was too impatient. My husband took this photo on Tuesday inside Belgrade's City Hall where a reception was held for 21 year-old Ana Ivanovic, who won her first Grand Slam at the French Open this year at Roland Garros in Paris, making her the Number One women's tennis player in the world. When you consider that Serbia also currently has major players as Jelena Jankovic, Novak Djokovic, and Janko Tipsarevic, that's not bad for such a small country. In any case, bravo to Ana, who is not only a winner, but a gracious beauty.

Indeed a winner! Her graciousness shows in her smile and in the light of her eyes. "Louis" doesn't blame you for posting now rather than for "W" Wednesday.

"Louis" hopes you have a splendid vacation!

What an exceptional portrait of this astonishing young athlete and champion. Indeed, she radiates beauty, grace, health and confidence from within. Hats off for Ana Ivanovic and cheers for your husband's excellent photo.

Pat, I watched two of her hard fought matches and was delighted to see and hear her response when she won. Very humble, almost school girl like in her pleasure and effusive joy, screaming out a little scream between her cupped hands on her face. I'm so happy for her. This photo is beyond wonderful! Kudos,

I'd not have wanted to wait on this photo either. It's great. Such a beautiful girl and what an amazing athlete too. Congratulations on her great win at the French Open. Gracious seems just the right word for her too.

What a lovely young woman and what a great portrait. It shows her face so clearly, with no shadows. Did he use the room's light or use a flash? If it was a flash, was it one that is separate from the camera?

Hi, Parlance. My husband has a little Canon Powershot, one of the smaller pocket models with a built-in flash. I will have to ask him if he used a flash, but from the white dot in her eyes, I have a feeling he did.

Wonderful pic and good for her and Serbia! In addition to the great athletes you have mentioned the Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic is one of the best in the world this year and is going into the Olympics as a fav for the Gold Medal.

Bibi, you inspired "Louis" to post this about two more Winning Smiles and Winning Girls. (All are welcome to view...)

She looks nice! Her flowers look nice! And her wearing looks nice too. Does she wear an unusual dress? or is it a common wearing in Serbia? A long white shirt with a white skirt and thin red belt, like a caftan!
