Theme Day--Sister Cities "Belgrade-Chicago"

"Chicago, Chicago, that's my kind of town...." And I'm pretty sure it would be too, if I were ever to travel there. Thanks to Nesha of the Beograd Cafe and Meat Market in Chicago, I am showing you this photo today that he gave me permission to publish. As their site http://www.beogradmarket.net/explains, "Beograd Market is a family-owned, old-fashioned market and coffee shop...selling only the finest tasting beef, pork, and lamb....In addition to our meat products, we also carry homemade meals, groceries, and frozen foods." Check out their site for a glimpse of mouth-watering ćevapčići, pljeskavice, (check my April 14th post; go to Archives on the left), and their photo gallery for a picture of Vlade Divac, the basketball star, who visited the Market!

this could easily pass for a street corner in New York City.

I lived in Chicago for ten years. It's a great city, ethnically diverse, and eastern Europe has always been well represented there. But I missed Beograd Cafe!

Thoughts are with you.

Dear Readers,

Thanks for your comments on my photo and your wishes to me here and thru my private mail link. My "kids" and I are coping, trying to make sense of our loss, and thinking of all the good times my husband and their father had together. Yesterday we took a trip to a nearby town where he grew up, visiting places we had gone together. Day by day... I will be back checking blogs in a couple of weeks. There's a 40-day tradition here of lying low after a beareavement that I will respect.

Bibi

I so admire you for even doing your blog at this time, but then perhaps it does help that you have this to do - as if caring for your children weren't enough. I love the photo today - a different take on a big city and well done for tracking it down.

Take care and heal. Grieving is part of the healing. Hugs from France - J x

Hope you are taking care of you during this difficult time - I'm thinking of you and praying for you as always!

Did you know that Chicago is called the Windy City - not because of the wind but because of politician's claims during the bidding for the 1892 World's Fair

Sister Cities! I wouldn't have known except for your post!

Pat, what a cool photo Nesha let you show! I love all the signs, and I'm sure I would enjoy trying some of their specialties within. Chi-town, named for a kind of stinky onion way back when.
Hoping today is going okay for you and thinking of you lots.

Now that's a very cool city sister.
Bravo for the image and the info. It has been fascinating finding who's linked to who, and to find so many aren't linked at all.

I know you had some scheduled posts, but I am in complete admiration of you for continuing at all. You can take the Yankie out of America but you can't take out the Yankie spirit.

SPRING FASHION

This is a post that would be better in color, but maybe not. These colors were soooo pale.
