The streets below Branko's Bridge were once quite attractive, and I hope their allure will be restored. I was pleasantly surprised to see this 'empty' building; only the facade remains. In other cities in Europe, it's a fairly common practice to restore/renovate old buildings inside and keep the facade. The streets below Branko's Bridge were once quite attractive, and I hope their allure will be restored. I was pleasantly surprised to see this 'empty' building; only the facade remains. In other cities in Europe, it's a fairly common practice to restore/renovate old buildings inside and keep the facade. Here, that's usually not so, but it looks like someone has that intention for this old building.

That is a lovely shell. It reminds me of a "ruin" in Brooklyn, NY that was turned into a sort of open air catering hall on the waterfront. Very interesting and atmospheric.
I can see why you would like this area on the water...hopefully, the restoration of this building will be the start of something big (and nice) and the people will return!

What a lovely photo ... I like the light and the open feeling .. and I too hope that facade is kept and the inside filled with shops to bring people to the area...
This place definitely has potential! Maybe in a year you'll be able to do a 'before and after' post of this lovely building.
I like this shot and hope the shell will be restored and something interesting, like a cultural center (NOT A BANK!!) will open on the waterfront property. The orange fencing reminds me of "The Gates" exhibit in Central Park a few years ago - fluttering orange banners.
It does look like as if someone is going to renovate this building. It is a lovely area! such a pity when beautiful buildings are left in ruins :S

That street is actually a fairly recent clubbing area in Belgrade with more and more clubs opening, I am assuming someone will renovate that building into a nightclub also, which to me is great news! The building to its immediate left is actually a cultural center, they organize lots of interesting events have a look on www.gradbeograd.eu if you're interested, they have events for handmade clothes/jewelry and furniture by independent artists and creators.
Thanks, Milos. You are right--my son told me about having been to some club there. I'm glad in any case that this facade will be preserved. I'll check out your link. I think you meant .rs, not .eu, no?
It is actually .eu, the project was financed by Sweden/Holland I think, the building was built in 1884!
It looks beautiful and I am glad they keep the frame. So much is changing in Belgrade, I am amazed.
