More street art, literally

Last Wednesday I posted a zebra crossing and promised you more street art, literally on the street. Here's a crosswalk decorated with several Belgrade monuments and surrounded by the Danube and Sava rivers. The red statue on the left is The Victor, which stands in Kalemegdan Park. At the top is Saint Sava's church, and in the center is the statue of Prince Mihailo downtown. The yellow monument on the right is the newly-rebuilt Avala Tower that had been totally destroyed during the NATO bombing of Serbia in 1999. My fellow Belgrade blogger, Vlada, recently posted two terrific photos of this tower that you can see on his blog.

the texture of the street seems like it would make it difficult to draw on, yet the artist did rather well!

That's great—so colorful! I hope it stays for a while.
And your friend's tower shots are terrific.

I really like these and the artwork is dynamic. Are these commissioned by the city and so are "official" or are they considered graffiti?

Hello, Jacob.

I'm not sure whether they're commissioned or not, but I have a feeling they are. I will try to find out.

This is very elaborate art to drive over, yet certainly brightens up the street. Hope it doesn't cause traffic jams. ;)

PICKLED RED ONIONS

My grandmother used to make these around Thanksgiving and now so have I.  Great as a tart side, in salads, or in a leftover turkey sandwic...
