Overlooking New Belgrade

Hot summer afternoon, taking a break on a park bench, and smoking a cigarette. Not my idea of enjoying the fresh air, but....

Your image here (and in the previous post) with the smokers, reminds «Louis» of how the French smoke.

Some years ago, before the current smoking bans took effect in Parisian restaurants, «Louis» asked for a non-smoking table in a Paris restaurant. The waiter, demonstrating the Gallic anger and haughtiness that helps continue the stereotype, seized the ashtray off my table, slammed it down on the next table, and said "You want non-smoking!? THERE is your non-smoking! - and made sure that he surrounded «Louis» with smokers...

PICKLED RED ONIONS

  My grandmother used to make these around Thanksgiving and now so have I.  Great as a tart side, in salads, or in a leftover turkey sandwic...
