ABC WEDNESDAY "Y" is for "Yams"

Maybe not an exciting post, but it is for me. Yams had never been available here until fairly recently.  Many Chinese immigrants in Serbia now grow them, along with a whole slew of other 'exotic' vegetables.

Yum and Yay for Yams.

See other Ys on Mrs. Nesbitt's ABC WEDNESDAY.

Love them! So yummy hot from the oven, we eat them with a dab of butter and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

I love yams. Our favorite way to eat them is to cut them raw into french fries and coat them lightly with olive oil then bake them in the oven. Yummm. Happy New Year from An Arkie's Musings

It is interesting that it is Chinese immigrants who introduced yams to Serbia, at least in more quantity than what was previously known there. Yams are an important vegetable for the Chinese. Mme la Vache, who is Chinese, is rarely without them in the kitchen.

All the best to you this New Year!

Lois Anne has always been a big fan of yams. I like them on occasion. Wonder why there were never grown there until recently.

I'll just keep on yammering and again wish you a great 2014!

I know what you mean - it's very comforting when you can buy/make the dishes you grew up with when you live in a different part of the world. New Years eve is a biggie for me - applebeignets and oliebollen (Holland) and a fruit compote with wine and 7-up (my mothers').
A happy New Year to you in Belgrade!
