SKYWATCH--The Swing

Have to say that nowadays when I do swing, usually accompanied by a child, the back and forth movement makes me a bit nauseated.  Nevertheless, while my little grandson (not this older boy) was swinging and happily being pushed by his mother, I snapped this photo of an enthusiastic swinger.  He made me think of the following poem, The Swing, by Robert Louis Stevenson:

How do you like to go up in a swing,

Up in the air so blue?

Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing

   Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,

Till I can see so wide,

Rivers and trees and cattle and all

   Over the countryside—

Till I look down on the garden green,

Down on the roof so brown—

Up in the air I go flying again,

Up in the air and down!

See other skies on SKYWATCH.

I do recall many happy times on a swing when in my childhood. Today, swinging has lost its charm.

Have always loved to swing as it makes me feel like I'm flying. Love the poem that also brings back memories.

I must say I have always been nauseated while swinging or on a merry go round or inside a boat...
